Viikki Church
Viikki Church (, ) is an Evangelical Lutheran church in the Viikki district of Helsinki, Finland Finland, officially the Republic of Finland, is a Nordic country in Northern Europe. It borders Sweden to the northwest, Norway to the north, and Russia to the east, with the Gulf of Bothnia to the west and the Gulf of Finland to the south, .... Completed in 2005, it is the newest of the city's church buildings. The church was designed by architect Samuli Miettinen of JKMM Architects. The church is part of Malmi parish. The church is mostly wooden: the floors, ceiling, walls and pillars are made of spruce and the outer cladding and double shingling are aspen. Furnishings are made of oak and aspen. The church seats 200 people; when combined with the parish meeting hall the capacity is 400. Viikki
Viikki () is a neighbourhood of about 15,000 inhabitants in Helsinki, Finland. It is located at the bottom of ''Vanhankaupunginlahti'' bay, some 7–10 km from the city centre. The district hosts the Viikki Campus with four of the faculties of the University of Helsinki (biosciences, pharmacy, veterinary medicine, and agriculture and forestry) as well as other university units such as research centres, science library and teacher training school. Viikki is known for its natural environment. The conservation area of ''Vanhankaupunginlahti'' is an important place of nesting and migration for birds. Large fields and farmlands are cultivated by a teaching farm that is part of the university's agricultural faculty. Southernmost part of the Latokartano residential zone is known as an "ecological housing" area. JKMM Architects
JKMM Architects () is a Finnish architectural firm. Asmo Jaaksi, Teemu Kurkela, Samuli Miettinen and Juha Mäki-Jyllilä established JKMM Architects in 1998. They started their studies in the middle of eighties. From the beginning, architectural innovation has been the driving force of their work.
