Viggo Johannessen
Viggo Johannessen (6 February 1936 – 21 June 2012) was a Norwegian director and civil servant. He was born at Nøtterøy in 1936. In 1963, he graduated from the University of Oslo with a cand.real. degree. From 1960 to 72, Johannessen worked as a scientist at the Institute of Transport Economics; for the rest of the decade he acted as managing director of Linjegods. In 1982, after ten years at Linjegods, he became the managing director of the three Oslo local transport authorities Oslo Sporveier, Ekebergbanen and Holmenkolbanen. Holmenkolbanen
A/S Holmenkolbanen was a company that owned and operated part of the Oslo Tramway and Oslo Metro in Norway from 1898 until 1975 when services were taken over by the majority owner Oslo Sporveier. Holmenkolbanen opened the Holmenkoll Line in 1898, and expanded it to become the first Nordic underground railway in 1928. The company took over operations of the Røa Line, Smestad Line in 1933, the Sognsvann Line in 1934. The company was merged into Oslo Sporveier in 1992. The ''Great Norwegian Encyclopedia'' ( no, Store Norske Leksikon, abbreviated ''SNL''), is a Norwegian-language online encyclopedia. The online encyclopedia is among the most-read Norwegian published sites, with more than two million unique visitors per month. Oslo
Oslo ( , , or ; sma, Oslove) is the capital and most populous city of Norway. It constitutes both a county and a municipality. The municipality of Oslo had a population of in 2022, while the city's greater urban area had a population of in 2019, and the metropolitan area had an estimated population of in 2021. During the Viking Age the area was part of Viken. Oslo was founded as a city at the end of the Viking Age in 1040 under the name Ánslo, and established as a ''kaupstad'' or trading place in 1048 by Harald Hardrada. The city was elevated to a bishopric in 1070 and a capital under Haakon V of Norway around 1300. Personal unions with Denmark from 1397 to 1523 and again from 1536 to 1814 reduced its influence. Ekebergbanen (company)
AS Ekebergbanen was a private company that built and operated the Ekeberg Line in Oslo, Norway. It was founded 27 March 1914, and the line opened 11 June 1917 from Stortorvet to Sæter. The company also built a line to Simensbråten that was closed 29 October 1967. Ekebergbanen also operated buses in Oslo. History The company was founded on 24 March 1914, and started construction of the line immediately, but the delivery of technical equipment and rolling stock was delayed because of the First World War. The company's formal establishment was therefore made on 1 June 1917, when the line between Stortorvet and Sæter was opened. In 1918, AS Ekebergbanen sent an application to build a funicular from Gamlebyen (then called Oslo) to Ekebergplatået. Nøtterøy
Nøtterøy is an island and a former municipality in the present-day municipality of Færder in Vestfold and Telemark county, Norway. The administrative centre of the municipality was the village of Borgheim. The parish of ''Nøtterø'' was established as a municipality on 1 January 1838 (see formannskapsdistrikt). Two islands were later transferred from the municipality of Stokke to Nøtterøy: Håøya (in 1901) and Veierland (in 1964). The whole municipality was made up of a small island group south of Tønsberg municipality, including the islands of Nøtterøy, Føynland, Veierland, and about 175 smaller islands. Nøtterøy includes the villages of Borgheim, Glomstein, Teie, and Torød. As 2010, 16,418 of the municipality lived within the town of Tønsberg, an urban area shared between the two municipalities. Oslo Sporveier
AS Oslo Sporveier is a defunct municipal owned company responsible for public transport in Oslo, Norway. It was created in 1924 to take over the city's two private tram companies. In 1927 its started with bus transport, including from 1940 to 1968 trolleybuses. Since 1966 rapid transit and from 1985 water buses have also been operated by the company. It was split into two separate companies in 2006; Kollektivtransportproduksjon took over the operation while Oslo Public Transport Administration (who retained the Oslo Sporveier brand) was responsible for buying the services, fare regulation and marketing. The latter merged into Ruter in 2008, when the Oslo Sporveier brand was discontinued.
