Vidar Benjaminsen
Vidar Benjaminsen (born 18 August 1962) is a Norway, Norwegian ski-orienteering Competition, competitor and world champion. He has received four gold medals, four silver medals and seven bronze medals at the World Ski Orienteering Championships, from 1986 to 1996. He won the overall World Cup in Ski Orienteering in 1989 and 1993. After retiring from elite ski-orienteering, he has been an active organizer of events as well as promoter of the sports of orienteering and ski-orienteering. Ski-orienteering
Ski orienteering (SkiO) is a cross-country skiing endurance winter racing sport and one of the four orienteering disciplines recognized by the IOF. A successful ski orienteer combines high physical endurance, strength and excellent technical skiing skills with the ability to navigate and make the best route choices while skiing at a high speed. Standard orienteering maps are commonly used, but since 2019, a separate mapping standard ISSkiOM has been produced which recommends a subset of the symbols used in other disciplines. Ski-orienteering maps uses green symbols to indicate trails and tracks and different symbols to indicate their navigability in snow; other symbols indicate whether any roads are snow-covered or clear. Navigation tactics is similar to mountain bike orienteering. Standard skate-skiing equipment is used, along with a map holder attached to the chest. The World Ski Orienteering Championships (Ski-WOC) is the official event to award the titles of World Champions in ski orienteering. The World Championships is organized every odd year. The programme includes Sprint, Middle and Long Distance competitions, and a Relay for both men and women. The first Ski-WOC was held in 1975. Competition
Competition is a rivalry where two or more parties strive for a common goal which cannot be shared: where one's gain is the other's loss (an example of which is a zero-sum game). International Orienteering Federation
The International Orienteering Federation (IOF) is the international governing body of the sport of orienteering. The IOF head office is located in Karlstad Municipality, Karlstad, Sweden. The IOF governs four orienteering disciplines: foot orienteering, mountain bike orienteering, ski orienteering, and trail orienteering. After the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine, the International Orienteering Federation suspended the membership of the Russian Orienteering Federation. Orienteering
Orienteering is a group of sports that involve using a map and compass to navigation, navigate from point to point in diverse and usually unfamiliar terrain whilst moving at speed. Participants are given a topographical map, usually a specially prepared orienteering map, which they use to find Control point (orienteering), control points. Originally a training exercise in Land navigation (military), land navigation for military officers, orienteering has developed many variations. Lillomarka Orienteering Team
Lillomarka is an area located to the northeast of Oslo, Norway. It is a part of Oslomarka and serves as a popular recreational area. Lillomarka is bordered by Maridalen and Nordmarka in the west, Nittedal and Gjelleråsen in the east, the suburbs Bjerke (borough), Bjerke and Grorud in the south and the Gjøvik Line, Gjøvik rail line and Movatn in the north. Anne Benjaminsen
Anne Benjaminsen (; born 25 March 1964) is a Finnish ski-orienteering competitor and World Champion. She participated at the 1988 World Ski Orienteering Championships in Kuopio, and won a gold medal in the ''relay'' with the Finnish team, with the teammates Sirpa Kukkonen and Virpi Juutilainen. Andrine Benjaminsen
Andrine Benjaminsen (born 23 August 1995) is a Norwegian orienteer and ski orienteer. Her acievements in ski orienteering include winning two bronze medals in the Junior World Championships. In foot orienteering, she has won medals at the World Orienteering Championships and the European Orienteering Championships, both in the individual competitions, and with relay teams for Norway. Career Junior career As a junior, Benjaminsen excelled in ski orienteering, and she won a bronze medal at the 2013 and 2015 Junior World Ski Orienteering Championships.
