Victorius Of Aquitaine
Victorius of Aquitaine (), a countryman of Prosper of Aquitaine and also working in Rome, produced in AD 457 an Easter Cycle, which was based on the consular list provided by Prosper's Chronicle. This dependency caused scholars to think that Prosper had been working on his own Easter Annals for quite some time. In fact, Victorius published his work only two years after the final publication of Prosper's Chronicle. Victorius finished his ''Cursus Paschalis'' in 457. From that date onward, he left blank the column giving the names of the consuls, but his table continued until the year AD 559 or Anno Passionis 532 (in the year of the Passion f Jesus532 — Victorius placed the Passion in AD 28), hence the name ''Cursus Paschalis annorum DXXXII'' (Easter Table up to the year 532). This first version was later continued by other authors, who filled in the names of the consuls as the years passed. The Victorian system of the Cursus Paschalis was made official by a synod in Gaul in 5 ...

Piero Vettori
Piero or Pietro Vettori (Latin: Petrus Victorius) (1499 – 8 December 1585) was an Italian writer, philologist and humanist. Life Vettori was born in Florence and in his life dealt with numerous matters, from agriculture to sciences, from rhetorics to moral philosophy, and also catalogued codexes in Florence and Italy. However his main interest was the study of ancient classics, especially Greek texts. In 1522 he traveled to Spain with his cousin Paolo Vettori, naval commander of the Papal States, and there he collected numerous ancient inscriptions which, once back to Florence, he tried to interpret. An adversary of the House of Medici, after the death of the Republic and the establishment of the Duchy of Florence in 1530, Vettori retired to San Casciano Val di Pesa, where he wrote the ''Trattato delle lodi et della coltivazione de gli ulivi'' ("Treatise on the praise and the cultivation of olive trees"). Despite previously having been a critic of Medici rule over Florence ...

Marcellus Of Tangier
Saint Marcellus of Tangier or Saint Marcellus the Centurion () (c. mid 3rd century – 298 AD) was a Roman people, Roman centurion who is today venerated as a Christian martyr, martyr-saint in both the Eastern Orthodox Church, Eastern Orthodox and the Catholic Church. His feast day is celebrated on October 30. Life Marcellus is said to have been a Roman centurion, stationed at Tingis (modern-day Tangiers), who refused to participate in the general birthday celebrations of the Emperor Maximian, which would have entailed sacrifice to the Roman mythology, Roman gods. Throwing off his military belt, weapons, and vine staff (the symbol of his rank), Marcellus was soon brought before a judge named Fortunatus the judge, Fortunatus. The judge remanded the saint to lay his case before Maximian and Constantius; the latter was friendly to Christians. However, Marcellus was taken to the deputy Praetorian prefect Aurelius Agricolanus instead. Marcellus pled guilty to repudiating his allegiance ...

Claudius Marius Victorius
Claudius Marius Victorius (or Victorinus or Victor) was a ''rhetor'' (i.e. a teacher and poet) of the fifth century CE from Marseille. He is known for a Latin poem on Genesis in hexameters and a letter to the abbot Salomon against the moral degradation of his age. Biography Evidence for Claudius's life comes from Gennadius of Massilia. He was born in the second half of the fourth century and died during the reign of Theodosius the Younger and Valentinian III, around 446. Works Gennadius of Massilia assigns a poem on Genesis, the ''Aletheia'' (i.e. Ancient Greek ἀλήθεια, 'truth'), to Claudius Marius Victor, ''orator Massiliensis'' ('an orator from Marseille'). This 1020-line hexametrical poem, intended for the instruction of the young, survives in one ninth-century manuscript and dates from the first or second quarter of the fifth century CE. It contains a prayer and three books which retell Genesis, from the creation of the world to the ruin of Sodom. The author was insp ...

LNWR Renown Class
The London and North Western Railway (LNWR) Renown Class was a class of 4-4-0 steam locomotives. They were rebuilds of F.W. Webb's 4-cylinder compounds of the Jubilee and Alfred the Great classes into 2-cylinder simple engines by George Whale, later continued by Charles Bowen-Cooke. The first to be rebuilt was number 1918 ''Renown'' in 1908. The rebuilds retained their original numbers. Unusually for the LNWR, the parent classes also had logical number series. Thus the Renowns were all numbered in the 1901–1940 series for ex-Jubilee Class and 1941–1980 for ex-Benbow class. In 1920, locomotive 1914 '' Invincible'' was renumbered 1257, and the number 1914 was then taken by the Claughton Class war memorial engine 1914 ''Patriot''. The London, Midland and Scottish Railway (LMS) acquired 56 Renowns in 1923. The LMS allocated these numbers in the 5131–5186 series, listed according to date of rebuilding, though not all numbers were applied before withdrawals started in ...
