The Victoria Royals are a Canadian major junior ice hockey team based in Victoria, British Columbia. The Royals play in the B.C. Division of the Western Conference in the Western Hockey League (WHL). The team began play during the 2011–12 WHL season, 2011–12 season after the league announced the relocation of the Chilliwack Bruins to Victoria. It marked the return of the WHL to Vancouver Island, 17 years after the departure of the Victoria Cougars (WHL), Victoria Cougars. The Royals play their home games at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre. The 2013–14 WHL season was the 48th season of the Western Hockey League (WHL). The regular season began on September 19, 2013, and ended on March 16, 2014. The Kelowna Rockets won their third Scotty Munro Memorial Trophy for best regular season regular, their first since 2003–04. The playoffs began on March 27, 2014, and ended on May 12, 2014. The Kelowna Rockets are a Canadian major junior ice hockey team based in Kelowna, British Columbia. Scotty Munro Memorial Trophy
The Scotty Munro Memorial Trophy is awarded annually to the regular season champion of the Western Hockey League. It is named after one of the league's founders, Scotty Munro. Munro served as the general manager of the Estevan Bruins, one of the league's founding franchises, and later as the head coach and general manager of the Calgary Centennials. 2019–20 WHL Season
The 2019–20 WHL season was the 54th season of the Western Hockey League (WHL). The regular season began on September 20, 2019, and was scheduled to end on March 22, 2020. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic in North America the regular season was suspended on March 12 and cancelled six days later along with the playoffs. The post-season had been scheduled to begin on March 27, in which sixteen teams would have competed for the Ed Chynoweth Cup. This was the first season for the Winnipeg Ice after being moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba, from Cranbrook, British Columbia. Suspension and cancellation of season On March 12, the WHL suspended the season until further notice due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Six days later, on March 18, the WHL cancelled the remainder of the regular season, but stated its intention to hold playoffs at a later time.
