Victor Solowij
Victor Sylvestrovych Solowij (29 November 1891 – 31 January 1966), later known as Archbishop Varlaam, was an archbishop of the Ukrainian Autocephalic Orthodox Church known for his public-political and church activism. He was born in the village of Kyriivka, in the Sosnycia District of Chernihiv Province, Ukraine. Early life He attended Novhorod-Siversky religious school and the Chernihiv Seminary before obtaining a law degree from Warsaw University in 1914. From 1914 to 1915 he worked as a court applicant in Moscow. He was then drafted and served as an artillery officer in the Russian Czarist Army. In 1917 he became the leader-chairman of the Ukrainian Military Community in Moscow and a local court judge in Chernihiv, Ukraine. Kyriivka
Kyriivka (Ukrainian language, Ukrainian: Киріївка) is a village in the Sosnytsia Territorial Community of Koriukivka Raion of Chernihiv Oblast, Ukraine. The population is 558 people. History Neolithic and Bronze Age settlements (6-4 and 2 millennia BC), two settlements and a burial ground of the 1st century AD, a settlement and the mound of the Ruthenian period (11th - 12th centuries) were found near the village. In the locality "Maslov Borok" there are traces of an ancient settlement with finds of stone arrowheads ("Thunder arrows"). On the village territory it were existed Early Siversk settlement and the little town of princely times at the river Ubid. The village was finally established on modern territory in the Polish historical period under the Oleksandr Pisochynskyi. Symon Vasylyovych Petliura ( uk, Си́мон Васи́льович Петлю́ра; – May 25, 1926) was a Ukrainian politician and journalist. Patriarch Mstyslav, secular name Stepan Ivanovych Skrypnyk (10 April 1898 – 11 June 1993), was a Ukrainian Orthodox Church hierarch. He was a nephew of Symon Petlyura. Biography Born in Poltava ( Russian Empire, now Ukraine), Skrypnyk attended the Poltava First Classical Gymnasium and dreamt of a military career through his youth. During the Great War years he studied at the Officers' school in Orenburg located in the Russian Ural Mountains. During the Ukrainian–Soviet War Skrypnyk became a diplomatic courier for the army of the Ukrainian People's Republic. He then served a second lieutenant (ensign) for special missions for Petlura. In the early 1920s he was interned by Poland to an internment camp in Kalisz. Later, he briefly settled in Volhynia but had to leave under the pressure of the Polish authorities. Ukrainian Galician Army ( uk, Українська Галицька Армія, translit=Ukrayins’ka Halyts’ka Armiya, UHA), was the Ukrainian military of the West Ukrainian National Republic during and after the Polish-Ukrainian War. It was called the "Galician army" initially. Dissatisfied with the alliance of Ukraine and Poland it joined the army of Anton Denikin in November 1919, was renamed the "Ukrainian Galician Army" and later joined the Red Army as the "Red Ukrainian Galician Army" in 1920. Soviet authorities disbanded it after part of it broke away to join the allied Ukrainian and Polish army, followed by Ukrainian celebrations in Odessa.
