Victor Davies (horticulturalist)
Sir Victor Caddy Davies (3May 188726March 1977) was a New Zealand nurseryman and horticulturist. He was born in New Plymouth, New Zealand, on 3 May 1887. In the 1954 Queen's Birthday Honours, Davies was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire, for services to horticulture. In 1968 he was awarded the Loder Cup. New Plymouth () is the major city of the Taranaki region on the west coast of the North Island of New Zealand. Officer Of The Order Of The British Empire
The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire is a British order of chivalry, rewarding valuable service in a wide range of useful activities. It comprises five classes of awards across both civil and military divisions, the most senior two of which make the recipient either a Orders, decorations, and medals of the United Kingdom#Modern honours, knight if male or a dame (title), dame if female. The Loder Cup is a New Zealand conservation award. It was donated by Gerald Loder, 1st Baron Wakehurst in 1926 to "encourage and honour New Zealanders who work to investigate, promote, retain and cherish our indigenous flora". The title of Knight Bachelor is the basic rank granted to a man who has been knighted by the monarch but not inducted as a member of one of the organised Order of chivalry, orders of chivalry; it is a part of the Orders, decorations, and medals of the United Kingdom, British honours system.
