Victor A. Pogadaev
Victor A. Pogadaev () (born November 20, 1946, in Sakmara, Orenburg Oblast, Russia) is a Russian historian, orientalist, and translator. He specializes in the history and culture of South-East Asia and translates literary works from Malay and Indonesian into Russian and vice versa. He is also a noted lexicographer. Biography In 1964 he graduated from Sakmarskaya high school with a gold medal. In 1964–1965 he worked as a teacher of German in Krasnokommunarskaya 8-year school at Sakmarskaya Station. In 1965–1970 years he was a student of Indonesian branch of the Institute of Oriental Languages, Lomonosov Moscow State University, graduating it with excellence. In 1970–1971 was studying Malay at the University of Malaya (Kuala Lumpur) in the first group of Russian students through the student exchange. Sakmara (rural Locality)
Sakmara (; , Haqmar) is a rural locality (a selo), the administrative center of Sakmarsky District in Orenburg Oblast, Russia. Located on the banks of the Sakmara river. Short history It was founded officially in 1725 as a Cossack settlement (the original name was ''Sakmarsky Gorodok'') but earlier in the late 17th century there was already there a Russian settlement founded by Old Believers refugees which was destroyed by the Bashkirs around 1710. Sakmara was the first Russian settlement in the area that existed before the founding of the city of Orenburg. Sakmara Cossacks participated in wars with Sweden in 1700-1721, with Turkey in 1735-1739, Prussia in 1756-1763, etc. Among the Cossacks there were many Old Believers. During the peasant uprising of 1773-1775 they did not oppose its leader Yemelyan Pugachev. ''Vechernyaya Moskva'' () is a Russian local newspaper published in Moscow since 6 December 1923 daily (except Saturday and Sunday). History It was founded as an organ of the Mossovet, later as an organ of the city committee of the CPSU and the Mossovet. In 1948, annual competitions in skeet shooting for the prize of the newspaper "Vechernyaya Moskva" began (the winner of these competitions received a special crystal cup as a reward).
