Victor (painter)
Victor ( el, Βίκτωρ, ?-1555) was a Greek painter in Venice active during the middle part of the 16th century. The only surviving painting is his self portrait. He was a painter during the High Renaissance. He drastically escaped the maniera greca. He is comparable to Ioannis Permeniates. History Victor was probably born in Venice or Crete. His father's name was Ioannis. In 1537, he was chosen by the Venetian authorities to fight in the Third Ottoman-Venetian War. He made out a will on July 10, 1537, the will begins: Ego Victor filius q. ser Johannis Greci, pictor de Conflnio Sancii Musis, iturum in classem. In 1539, O Vetto depentor was a soldier until 1540. On July 15, 1555, Victor the painter and son of Ioannis was a member of the church of Saint Moses. In the archives, it stated that Vettorello depentor died. Italian Renaissance
The Italian Renaissance ( it, Rinascimento ) was a period in Italian history covering the 15th and 16th centuries. The period is known for the initial development of the broader Renaissance culture that spread across Europe and marked the transition from the Middle Ages to modernity. Proponents of a "long Renaissance" argue that it started around the year 1300 and lasted until about 1600. In some fields, a Proto-Renaissance, beginning around 1250, is typically accepted. Victor ( el, Βίκτωρ, 1630/1635–1697) was a painter active during the 17th century. He represented the late Cretan school. He was influenced by Michael Damaskinos. He kept his style simple and followed the lines of the improved maniera greca which was heavily influenced by the Venetian school. One of his main influences was Michael Damaskinos. He was active when four different artists used the name Victor. He has a huge catalog of work attributed to him. According to the Neo-Hellenic Institute, ninety-five of his paintings and one fresco survived. He was an extremely popular Greek icon painter. History Victor was born in Heraklion. He was a monk. High Renaissance

Vittore Carpaccio
