VfL Gummersbach
VfL Gummersbach is a professional handball club from the German city of Gummersbach, North Rhine-Westphalia. Currently, VfL Gummersbach competes in the Handball-Bundesliga and the DHB-Pokal. The club has seen great success, especially from the late 1960s until the early 1990s. History The club was founded as a multisports club on March 3rd 1861 as ''Gummersbacher Turnverein''(GTV). The youth department was founded in 1884, and in 1906 women were included as members. The handball department was founded in 1925. While field handball was the most popular variant in Germany at the time, Gummersbach focused on indoor handball. In 1966 the club won the German Championship for the first time. In 1970 the club won the European Cup, beating SC Dynamo Berlin in the final. During the 1970's the club won four more German championships, as well as 2 German cups and five European Cups. EHF Champions League
The EHF Champions League is the most important club handball competition for men's teams in Europe and involves the leading teams from the top European nations. The competition is organised every year by EHF. The official name for the men's competition is the EHF Champions League Men. The EHF coefficient rank decides which teams have access and in which stage they enter. Eligibility and qualifying Each year, the EHF publishes a ranking list of its member federations. The first 9 nations are automatically permitted to participate in the tournament with their national champion. The national federation ranked first place in the EHF European League, currently Germany, is awarded a second qualification berth for the domestic runner-up. Julian Köster (born 16 March 2000) is a German handball player for VfL Gummersbach and the Germany men's national handball team, German national team. Career Club career Having started at TuS SW Brauweiler, Köster completed his youth team career at TSV Bayer Dormagen, a team he would make his senior handball debut with in 2018, playing in the 2. Bundesliga. In 2020, the German switched to league rivals VfL Gummersbach, signing a contract until 2024. His team earned promotion to the Bundesliga in the 2022 season, one which automatically triggered a one-year contract extension in Köster's contract. Dominik Kuzmanović (born 15 August 2002) is a Croatian handball player for German club VfL Gummersbach and the Croatian national team. Early life Kuzmanović was born on 15 August 2002 in Dugo Selo. He started playing handball at the age of five. Kuzmanović attended Stjepan Radić Elementary School in Brckovljani, where his teachers described him as an excellent student who excelled at all school subjects, including mathematics.
