Vetrimaran
V. Chitravel Vetrimaaran (born 4 September 1975) is an Indian film director, film producer and screenwriter who primarily works in Tamil cinema. He is known for his unique filmography with major commercial success and highly critically acclaimed body of work. He has won five National Film Awards, three Filmfare South Awards and one Tamil Nadu State Film Award. Vetrimaaran made his directorial debut with '' Polladhavan'' (2007). His second feature film ''Aadukalam'' (2011) won six National Film Awards. His 2016 directorial ''Visaranai'' was selected as India's official entry to the Academy Awards. His film '' Asuran'' (2019) received the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Tamil. He produces films under his production company, Grass Root Film Company. Visaranai
''Visaranai'' () is a 2016 Indian Tamil-language crime drama film written and directed by Vetrimaaran. It is based on the novel ''Lock Up'' by M. Chandrakumar. The film stars Dinesh, Anandhi, Samuthirakani, Aadukalam Murugadoss, Kishore, Pradheesh Raj, and Silambarasan Rathnasamy. The film deals with the lives of two men before and after being thrown into a kafkaesque scenario in which they get tortured for confession. Vetrimaaran later told that, in the beating sequences in the film, the actors were really beaten (which was criticized by some of the foreign media and a member of Golden Globes during the film's Oscar campaign), and all of them had to undergo counselling sessions. The film premiered in the Orizzonti (Horizons) section of the 72nd Venice Film Festival, where it won the Amnesty International Italia Award. ''Polladhavan'' () is a 2007 Indian Tamil-language action thriller film written and directed by Vetrimaaran in his directorial debut. Starring Dhanush and Ramya, the film revolves around a man whose life improves after buying a bike, and turns upside down after it is stolen. Three songs and the background score were composed by G.
