Vetiver (band)
Vetiver is an American folk band headed by songwriter Andy Cabic. History Vetiver was formed in San Francisco in 2002. The band released their self-titled debut album in 2004 on the small indie folk label DiCristina. Since the album's release, Vetiver has toured extensively, opening for and collaborating with Devendra Banhart and Joanna Newsom. Vetiver released another album, '' To Find Me Gone'', on DiCristina in 2006. Banhart and Cabic also launched their own label, Gnomonsong Recordings, releasing Jana Hunter's ''Blank Unstaring Heirs of Doom'' in 2005 and ''There's No Home'' in 2007. The label also released in 2008 Vetiver's '' Thing of the Past'', a collection of cover songs that have influenced Cabic's aesthetic. Devendra Banhart
Devendra Obi Banhart (born May 30, 1981) is an American singer-songwriter and visual artist. Banhart was born in Texas and raised in Venezuela and California. In 2000, he dropped out of the San Francisco Art Institute to pursue a musical career. In 2002, Banhart released his debut album and is best known for his albums in the late 2000s such as '' Cripple Crow'' and '' Smokey Rolls Down Thunder Canyon''. He has since expanded his career to incorporate his interest and training in the visual arts. Early life Banhart was born in Houston, Texas, to a Venezuelan mother, María Eugenia Rísquez, and an American father, Robert Gary Banhart. His mother worked as a model. ''Smashed'' is a 2012 American drama film, drama film directed by James Ponsoldt, written by Ponsoldt and Susan Theresa Burke, Susan Burke, and starring Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Aaron Paul. Winstead and Paul play a married couple, Kate and Charlie Hannah, both alcoholism, alcoholics. After a series of embarrassing incidents caused by her drinking habit, Kate decides to get sober with the help of a coworker and a sponsor from Alcoholics Anonymous. The script was partly based on Burke's own experience of giving up alcohol at a young age, since she felt that her narrative had not yet been told on film. She and Ponsoldt wrote the script over six months, and the main roles were cast in September 2011. Wilco
Wilco is an American Rock music, rock band based in Chicago. The band was formed in 1994 by the remaining members of alternative country group Uncle Tupelo after singer Jay Farrar's departure. Wilco's lineup changed frequently during its first decade, with only singer Jeff Tweedy and bassist John Stirratt remaining from the original incarnation. Since early 2004 the lineup has been unchanged, consisting of Tweedy, Stirratt, guitarist Nels Cline, multi-instrumentalist Pat Sansone, keyboard player Mikael Jorgensen, and drummer Glenn Kotche. Fruit Bats is an American indie rock band formed in 1997 in Chicago, Illinois, as the project of singer/songwriter Eric D. Johnson. Johnson is the band's sole permanent member, with various musicians joining the band in live and studio settings. History Early years and ''Echolocation'' In the late 1990s and early 2000s, Eric D. Johnson was teaching guitar and banjo at Chicago's Old Town School of Folk Music, and fronting an indie rock band called I Rowboat. The Shins
The Shins are an American indie rock band formed in Albuquerque, New Mexico, in 1996. Fleet Foxes are an American indie folk band formed in Seattle, Washington, in 2006. Vashti Bunyan
Jennifer Vashti Bunyan (born 2 March 1945) is an English singer-songwriter. She began her career in the mid-1960s and released a debut album, '' Just Another Diamond Day'', in 1970. The album sold very few copies and Bunyan, discouraged, abandoned her musical career. By 2000, the album had acquired a cult following; it was re-released and Bunyan recorded more songs, beginning the second phase of her musical career after a gap of thirty years. She released two more albums, '' Lookaftering'' in 2005, and '' Heartleap'' in 2014. ''Thing of the Past'' is the third studio album by the American folk band Vetiver, released in 2008 by Gnomonsong in the U.S. and FatCat Records in the UK. The album consists of cover songs originally performed by songwriters that frontman Andy Cabic considers influential in his music and life. Several of the original authors appear as guests on their respective songs, including Michael Hurley. Recorded in spring 2007 in Sacramento and Los Angeles, the basic tracks, including all the guitars, drums, bass and some of the vocals, were recorded live in the studio. Cabic considered it his best album up to that point, calling it an "experiment" which offered him both "restraint and freedom". Rhapsody praised the album, calling it one of their favorite covers albums. Jana Hunter is an American songwriter and musician based in Baltimore. Early life Hunter was born in Texas. His family is Catholic, but he no longer follows Catholicism. Recording and band membership Hunter was signed to Gnomonsong, a record label run by Devendra Banhart and Vetiver (band), Vetiver's Andy Cabic. Hunter's solo debut album ''Blank Unstaring Heirs of Doom'' was the label's debut release. In 2007 Hunter founded an independent record label based in Houston, Texas, Feow! Records, with musicians Matthew Brownlie of Bring Back the Guns and Arthur Bates of Houston band Wicked Poseur. Hunter was the singer and primary songwriter for Lower Dens.
