Vetala Panchvimshati
The ''Vetala Panchavimshati'' (, IAST: ), or ''Betal Pachisi'' ("''Twenty-five (tales) of Betal''"), is a collection of tales and legends within a frame story, from India. Internationally, it is also known as Vikram-Vetala. It was originally written in Sanskrit. One of its oldest recensions is found in the 12th book of the ''Kathasaritsagara'' ("Ocean of the Streams of Story"), a work in Sanskrit compiled in the 11th century by Somadeva, but based on yet older materials, now lost. This recension comprises in fact twenty-four tales, the frame narrative itself being the twenty-fifth. The two other major recensions in Sanskrit are those by Śivadāsa and Jambhaladatta. The Vetala stories are popular in India and have been translated into many Indian vernaculars. Several English translations exist, based on Sanskrit recensions and on Hindi, Tamil, Bengali, and Marathi versions. Sunil Agnihotri
Sunil Agnihotri is a Bollywood film and TV producer and director. He has been described as the "king of television costume dramas". Work Davaa was released in 1997 and was appreciated. He then went on to produce and direct in 1997 a series called Betaal Pachisi which was a very successful as a TV fantasy series. However that year, he faced a lawsuit involving the US. King Features Syndicate filed a case arguing that Agnihotri had copied the idea of ''The Phantom ''The Phantom'' is an American adventure comic strip, first published by Lee Falk in February 1936. The main character, the Phantom, is a fictional costumed crime-fighter who operates from the fictional African country of Bangalla. The char ...'' comic strips for the Betaal series. However, the court said that only the unique expression of an idea could be protected, not the idea itself. The serial was full of songs, which were released on cassette, and was shot like a musical.
