Vestby IL
Vestby Idrettslag is a Norwegian sports club from Vestby, Akershus. It has sections for association football, track and field, Nordic skiing and amateur boxing. It was founded on 4 June 1917. In 1940 ''Vestby IF'' merged with the AIF club ''Vestby AIL'' to form Vestby IL. The men's football team currently plays in the Third Division, the fourth tier of football in Norway. Vestby
Vestby is a municipality in former Akershus now Viken county, Norway. It is part of the Follo traditional region. The administrative centre of the municipality is the village of Vestby. General information Name The municipality (originally the parish) is named after the old ''Vestby'' farm (Old Norse: ''Vestbýr''), since the first church was built here. The first element is ''vestr'' which means "west" and the last element is ''býr'' meaning "farm". The neighbouring farms have the names ''Østby'' ("eastern farm"), ''Sunnby'' ("southern farm"), and ''Nordby'' ("northern farm"); and they must all four be the parts of a bigger and older farm, whose name is now unknown. Akershus
Akershus () is a traditional region and current electoral district in Norway, with Oslo as its main city and traditional capital. It is named after the Akershus Fortress in Oslo. Nordic Skiing
Nordic skiing encompasses the various types of skiing in which the toe of the ski boot is fixed to the binding in a manner that allows the heel to rise off the ski, unlike alpine skiing, where the boot is attached to the ski from toe to heel. Recreational disciplines include cross-country skiing and Telemark skiing. Olympic events are competitive cross-country skiing, ski jumping and Nordic combined — an event combining cross-country skiing and ski jumping. Amateur Boxing
Amateur boxing is a variant of boxing practiced at the collegiate level, at the Olympic Games, Pan American Games and Commonwealth Games, as well as many associations. Amateur boxing bouts are short in duration, comprising three rounds of three minutes in men, and four rounds of two minutes in women, each with a one-minute interval between rounds. Men's senior bouts changed in format from four two-minute rounds to three three-minute rounds on January 1, 2009. This type of competition prizes point-scoring blows, based on number of clean punches landed, rather than physical power. The Workers' Federation of Sports ( no, Arbeidernes Idrettsforbund), often just called the AIF, was a sporting organization in Norway between 1924 and 1946.Heinemann, Klaus.
