Vert Amande
Vert Amande (foaled 1988 in France) is a Thoroughbred racehorse. Bred by Baron Guy de Rothschild at his Haras de Meautry in Lower Normandy, he was purchased and raced by the prominent Spanish industrialist, Enrique Sarasola. Vert Amande was a winner of the 1992 Prix d'Hédouville and the Prix Maurice de Nieuil. In 1993 he won France's Prix Ganay at the Longchamp Racecourse and Spain's Group 3 Gran Premio Memorial Duque de Toledo at the Hipódromo de la Zarzuela in Madrid. The following year, his best major race result was a second to Urban Sea in the Prix d'Harcourt. Vert Amande was ridden by Dominique Boeuf and trained by Élie Lellouche. He competed three times in the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe, France's most prestigious race. His best performance was a third-place finish in 1992. Kalamoun
Kalamoun (30 April 1970 – 1979) was a British-bred, French-trained Thoroughbred racehorse and sire. Owned and bred by Aga Khan IV he showed promise as a juvenile, winning once and running well in the Observer Gold Cup and the Prix Thomas Bryon. In the following year he emerged as one of the best colts of his generation in France, recording Group One victories the Poule d'Essai des Poulains, Prix Lupin and Prix Jacques Le Marois. He was retired at the end of the season and became a successful breeding stallion in a brief stud career. He died in 1979 at the age of nine. Background Kalamoun was a grey horse with a white blaze bred in the United Kingdom by his owner Aga Khan IV. He was sired by Zeddaan (1965–1984), whose wins included the Prix Robert Papin, Poule d'Essai des Poulains and Prix d'Ispahan. The Thoroughbred is a horse breed best known for its use in horse racing. Although the word ''thoroughbred'' is sometimes used to refer to any breed of purebred horse, it technically refers only to the Thoroughbred breed. Horse breeding is reproduction in horses, and particularly the human-directed process of selective breeding of animals, particularly purebred horses of a given breed. Planned matings can be used to produce specifically desired characteristics in domesticated horses. Dominique Boeuf
Dominique Boeuf (born 6 June 1968 at Maisons-Laffitte, France) is a jockey in Thoroughbred flat racing. He began his career while still a teen and won his first race on 15 September 1984. Three years later, he got his first Group One win aboard Groom Dancer in the 1987 Prix Lupin. From there, he went on to become the French flat racing Champion Jockey four times. In 2003, Boeuf won the Air Mauritius / Beau Rivage International Jockeys Day. Prix D'Harcourt
The Prix d'Harcourt is a Group 2 flat horse race in France open to thoroughbreds aged four years or older. It is run over a distance of 2,000 metres (about 1¼ miles) at Longchamp in April. History The event is named in memory of Emmanuel d'Harcourt (1844–1928), a former president of the Société d'Encouragement. It was established in 1929, and was originally contested over 2,400 metres. The Prix d'Harcourt was held at Auteuil in 1940, and at Maisons-Laffitte in 1943 and 1944. On the latter occasion its distance was 2,000 metres. The race's distance was changed to 2,150 metres in 1946. It was cut to 2,100 metres in 1953, and to 2,000 metres in 1958. Urban Sea
Urban Sea (18 February 1989 – 2 March 2009) was an American bred Thoroughbred racemare best known for winning France's most prestigious race, the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe, in 1993 and for her importance as a world-class broodmare. She is one of ten mares to produce two Derby winners, namely Galileo and Sea the Stars. She is the only mare in the 21st century to produce two Derby winners. None has produced three winners of this race. Hipódromo De La Zarzuela
The Hipódromo de la Zarzuela is a race course on the outskirts of Madrid, Spain. It was designed in the 1930s. The architecture is in a modernist style which has been described as ''racionalismo madrileño''. Races held at the facility include the Gran Premio de Madrid which has been held there since 1941. History The Hipódromo de la Zarzuela was designed to replace the Hipódromo de la Castellana, a course on the Paseo de la Castellana. The old course was demolished in the 1930s so that the site could be redeveloped as office buildings. The architects were and Martín Domínguez Esteban, who had been collaborating since the 1920s.
