''Verrallia aucta'' is a species of fly in the family Pipunculidae. It is found in the Palearctic.Coe, R.L. (1966) Pipunculidae.''Handbook for the Identification of British Insects'', Vol. X (Part 2c): 1-83; Royal Entomological Society Londonpdf/ref> Hosts Parasitoid on ''Philaenus spumarius''. Because ''P. s.'' is the most common vector (in Europe) of the invasive agricultural disease ''Xylella fastidiosa'', ''V. aucta'' is of great interest as a biological control. Insecticide application can produce paradoxical target rebound by hitting ''V. aucta'' as well as the intended ''P. spumarius''. This is also a problem for tillage, but only specifically in April, due to the particularities of the ''V. aucta'' lifecycle. James Edward Collin
James Edward Collin (16 March 1876, Kirtling – 16 September 1968) was an English entomologist who specialised in Diptera. He was the author of ''Empididae''. ''British Flies'', Volume 6. University Press, Cambridge (1961). This was the third volume in an uncompleted series begun by his uncle George Henry Verrall. Collin wrote extensively on Diptera of most families of Diptera (excepting those in Nematocera The Nematocera (the name means "thread-horns") are a suborder of elongated fly, flies with thin, segmented antenna (biology), antennae and mostly aquatic larvae. Josef Mik, also Joseph Mik (23 March 1839 in Zábřeh – 13 October 1900 in Vienna) was a Bohemian entomologist mainly interested in Diptera. He described many new species and made contributions to knowledge of the Diptera of Central Europe. Mik was the first dipterist to clarify the chaetotaxy of the legs.
