Veronica Dorsette-Hector is a politician from Montserrat who has served as a member of the Legislative Assembly of Montserrat since 2019. She was the parliamentary secretary. She switched political parties in 2023, from Movement for Change and Prosperity to United Alliance. The same day, she resigned from being the parliamentary secretary. Movement For Change And Prosperity
The Movement for Change and Prosperity (MCAP) is a political party in Montserrat. History The party was established in 2005 as a successor to the National Progressive Party. In the 2006 elections it received 36.1% of the vote, winning four seats. Although it was the largest party in the Legislative Council, a coalition government was formed by the Montserrat Democratic Party (MDP), the New People's Liberation Movement (NPLM) and an independent MP. In the 2009 elections, the MCAP won six of the nine seats, with its then leader Reuben Meade becoming Chief Minister. However, the 2014 elections saw the party reduced to two seats. In the 2019 elections the MCAP won five out of nine seats, with its new leader Easton Taylor-Farrell becoming the new Premier. In March 2024, Samuel Joseph became the party leader. Montserrat ( , ) is a British Overseas Territories, British Overseas Territory in the Caribbean. It is part of the Leeward Islands, the northern portion of the Lesser Antilles chain of the West Indies. Montserrat is about long and wide, with roughly of coastline. 2024 Montserratian General Election
General elections were held in Montserrat on 24 October 2024. Electoral system The Legislative Assembly has eleven members, of which nine are elected. The other two seats are taken by the attorney general and the financial secretary. The island is a single nine-member constituency, with voters able to vote for up to nine candidates on their ballot paper under plurality-at-large voting. Candidates must receive at least 6% of the vote to be elected. If fewer than nine candidates receive more than 6% of the vote, a second round is held within 21 days. The United Alliance of Sabah (; abbreviated: ''GBS'') was a political coalition bringing together Sabah-based opposition parties in Malaysia established by Joseph Pairin Kitingan following the fall of the Barisan Nasional coalition in the 2018 Malaysian general election.
