Vermont Wild
The Vermont Wild was a team in the Federal Hockey League in the 2011-12 season. Based in Morrisville, Vermont, the team — originally dubbed the Green Mountain Rock Crushers — played their home games at the Green Mountain Arena. Both the team and the arena were owned by Randall J. Latona, a former owner of the Rochester Americans of the American Hockey League and the Rochester Knighthawks of the National Lacrosse League. The Wild was the only professional ice hockey team ever to be based in the state of Vermont. On November 25, 2011, after playing only 10 of their 53 scheduled games, the Federal Hockey League announced that the Vermont Wild had folded. The Federal Prospects Hockey League (FPHL) is a professional ice hockey independent minor league with teams in the Midwestern, Southern, and Northeastern United States. The FPHL began operations in November 2010 as the Federal Hockey League. Don Kirnan is the league's commissioner. The Green Mountain Arena was a 1,000-seat multi-purpose arena in Morrisville, Vermont. It was home to the Peoples Academy High School Wolves varsity hockey team and the Lamoille Area Hockey Association. In the fall of 2011, it was home to the short lived Vermont Wild of the Federal Hockey League. The Rochester Americans (colloquially known as the Amerks) are a professional ice hockey team based in Rochester, New York. They are the American Hockey League affiliate of the National Hockey League's Buffalo Sabres. The team plays its home games at the Blue Cross Arena at the War Memorial. The Americans are the fourth oldest franchise in the AHL, and have the second longest continuous tenure among AHL teams in their current locations after the Hershey Bears. Rochester was awarded a new franchise in June 1956, when the Pittsburgh Hornets were forced to suspend operations after their arena, the Duquesne Gardens was razed in an urban renewal project. The American Hockey League (AHL) is a professional ice hockey league in North America that serves as the primary developmental league of the National Hockey League (NHL). The Rochester Knighthawks (also known as the K-Hawks) are an American professional box lacrosse team based in Rochester, New York, that competes in the National Lacrosse League (NLL). The team plays its home games at Blue Cross Arena. The Knighthawks are owned by Terry Pegula who purchased the intellectual property of the team from former owner Curt Styres. Styres moved the previous version of the team to Halifax, Nova Scotia, as the Halifax Thunderbirds at the end of the 2018–2019 season.
