Verity (''alias'' Veretie, Verety, Verita, Veritie, etc.) is a female first name and a surname. As a first name it derives from the Latin feminine noun ''veritas'', meaning "truth". It is thus an equivalent of Alethea, a female first name first used in England ''circa'' 1585, derived from the ancient and modern Greek feminine noun ''αλήθεια'' (pronounced "al-ee-thia"), meaning "truth". It was adopted in England as a Puritan and Quaker virtue name, truthfulness being considered as a desirable attribute especially in a female, and following a new Protestant tradition of naming children after virtues instead of saints in order to avoid idolatry. Hedley Verity (18 May 1905 – 31 July 1943) was a professional cricketer who played for Yorkshire County Cricket Club, Yorkshire and England national cricket team, England between 1930 and 1939. John Verity
John Verity (born 3 July 1949) is an English guitarist and singer. Best known for as a member of Argent, a band formed by Zombies keyboardist Rod Argent. He joined the band alongside John Grimaldi, replacing Russ Ballard. Early life, family and education Verity was born in Bradford, West Yorkshire, England. Career Verity was a member of the band Argent from 1974 to 1976. When the band dissolved, he formed a new band, Phoenix, with Bob Henrit and Jim Rodford. The band recorded three albums with CBS Records and toured Europe before disbanding. Rodford joined the Kinks, Verity and Henrit joined Charlie, to record an album with RCA Records. Verity produced the Phoenix albums and Charlie album as well as the first Saxon album. During the early 1980s Verity worked with Brian Connolly (former vocalist with Sweet) in an attempt to launch him as a solo artist. Verity Lambert
Verity Ann Lambert (27 November 1935 – 22 November 2007) was an English television and film producer. Lambert began working in television in the 1950s. She began her career as a producer at the BBC by becoming the founding producer of the science-fiction series '' Doctor Who'' from 1963 until 1965. She left the BBC in 1969 and worked for other television companies, notably having a long association with Thames Television and its Euston Films offshoot in the 1970s and 1980s. Elsie Eleanor Verity (14 August 1894 – 9 June 1971) was known as "The First Lady of the motor trade". Biography Elsie Eleanor Verity was also known as Miss E E Verity and was born in Barton upon Irwell, Lancashire, in 1894 to William and Lilly Verity. William Verity came from a metalworking family. He began as a whitesmith, then a fitter and began a building bikes which became a motor garage in Manchester. Education Verity attended Manchester Central High School and at 16 she left school and began learning engineering from her father. He had already taught her to drive when she was 13. He played college football at East Carolina and was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Baltimore Ravens in 2021. Charlotte Verity, Lady Le Brun (born 1954) is a painter living and working in London, UK. A monograph on her work, ''Charlotte Verity'' was published by Ridinghouse, in November 2016. Biography Born in Germany, Verity attended the Slade School of Art from 1973 to 1977, and won a Slade prize in her final year. In 1978 she was awarded a Boise travelling scholarship to study in Italy. Verity Charlotte Rushworth (born 15 August 1985) is an English actress. She is known for portraying the role of Donna Windsor in the ITV soap opera ''Emmerdale'' from 1998 to 2009, with a guest appearance in 2014. Verity Helen Firth (born 28 August 1973) is the Pro Vice-Chancellor (Social Justice and Inclusion) at the University of Technology Sydney. She was the chief executive officer of the Public Education Foundation in Australia and is a former politician. Verity (sculpture)
''Verity'' is a 2012 stainless steel and bronze statue created by Damien Hirst. The tall sculpture stands on the pier at the entrance to the harbour in Ilfracombe, Devon, looking out over the Bristol Channel towards South Wales. It has been loaned to the town for 20 years. The name of the piece refers to "truth" and Hirst describes his work as a "modern allegory of truth and justice". The statue depicts a pregnant woman holding aloft a sword while carrying the scales of justice and standing on a pile of law books. Half of the sculpture shows the internal anatomy of the pregnant woman, with the foetus clearly visible. The stance has been described as a reference to '' Little Dancer of Fourteen Years'' by Edgar Degas, a c. 1880 work that previously inspired Hirst when he created ''Virgin Mother'', another massive sculpture of a pregnant woman with her foetus exposed. Verity Mary Barton (born 6 August 1985) is an Australian politician. She was the LNP member of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland for Broadwater from 2012 to 2017.
