The Gothic Line (; ) was a German and Italian defensive line of the Italian Campaign of World War II. It formed Field Marshal Albert Kesselring's last major line of defence along the summits of the northern part of the Apennine Mountains during the fighting retreat of the Axis forces in Italy against the Allied Armies in Italy, commanded by General Sir Harold Alexander. Adolf Hitler had concerns about the state of preparation of the Gothic Line: he feared the Allies would use amphibious landings to outflank its defences. Church Of The Assumption Of Mary, Riola Di Vergato
Santa Maria Assunta ("Assumption of Mary") is a Catholic church located in Riola di Vergato, northern Italy. It was designed by Finnish modernist architect Alvar Aalto. History The design of the project began in 1965–66. The Archbishop of Bologna, Cardinal Giacomo Lercaro secured Aalto's participation upon seeing his work in an exhibition in Florence at the Palazzo Strozzi. Lercaro had also commissioned architects Kenzo Tange and Le Corbusier to design churches in his domain. Because both Aalto and Lercaro died in 1976, and only some portions of the project masterplan were completed, this work could be considered posthumous. Construction began in 1975. Grizzana Morandi ( Medial Mountain Bolognese: ) is a ''comune'' (municipality) in the Metropolitan City of Bologna in the Italian region Emilia-Romagna, located about southwest of Bologna. The town is summer holiday resort, located in the mountains between the valleys of the rivers Reno and Setta. Originally simply Grizzana, it received the "Morandi" in 1985, as an honorarium to the Italian painter Giorgio Morandi, who died in 1964. Morandi rarely travelled from his home and studio in Bologna, but visited Grizzana every year from 1913 for a summer holiday period, and many of his landscape paintings are of the town and its immediate surrounds.
