Verdon College
Verdon College is a co-educational Roman Catholic high school in Invercargill, New Zealand, teaching students from year 7 to 13 (ages 11–18). The College is named after Michael Verdon, Bishop Michael Verdon (1838–1918) who was the second Catholic Bishop of Roman Catholic Diocese of Dunedin, Dunedin (1896–1918). In 2023, 93.4% of Year 11 students achieved NCEA Level 1, 88.7% of Year 12 students achieved NCEA Level 2, and 44.3% of Year 13 students achieved NCEA Level 3. Roncalli College is a Catholic secondary school in Timaru, New Zealand. It was named after Pope John XXIII, whose birth name was Angelo Giuseppe Roncalli. Smokefreerockquest (SFRQ) is an annual music competition for intermediate and high school bands throughout New Zealand. The first Rockquest was held in 1988, and was organised by Christchurch radio station C93FM as a local event. The following year, local sound company owner Mike Waldegrave, Music promoter Barb Cuttance and school teachers Glenn Common and Pete Rainey formed Rockquest Promotions and by 1990 had made Rockquest a national event, with five regional finals and a national final. In 1991, Smokefree became a major sponsor, and the name became the Smokefreerockquest. Glenn Common and Pete Rainey now run Rockquest Promotions full-time out of Nelson. Smokefreerockquest reaches audience numbers in excess of 24,000.
