Venice is a neighborhood of the City of Los Angeles within the Westside region of Los Angeles County, California, United States. Venice was founded by Abbot Kinney in 1905 as a seaside resort town. It was an independent city until 1926, when it was annexed by Los Angeles. Venice is known for its canals, a beach, and Ocean Front Walk, a pedestrian promenade that features performers, fortune-tellers, and vendors. Area codes 310 and 424 are telephone area codes in the North American Numbering Plan (NANP) for the U.S. state of California. The numbering plan area includes the West Los Angeles and South Bay areas of Los Angeles County, a small portion of Ventura County, and Santa Catalina Island, which is located south. Area code 310 was created in a split from area code 213 on November 2, 1991. On January 25, 1997, area code 310 was split, creating area code 562 for the southeast portion of Los Angeles County and a large portion of Orange County. It mediates between the column and the load thrusting down upon it, broadening the area of the column's supporting surface. The Ship Cafe was a landmark of Venice, California, United States, from 1903 to 1946. Built along the Abbot Kinney Pier, Venice Pier over the water off Windward Avenue, the restaurant and event space was known for its sumptuous food and prestigious clientele. The ship was a Novelty architecture, novelty building, set on concrete Deep foundation, pilings, and not actually a sea-worthy vessel. History Constructed by Abbot Kinney beginning in 1903, the restaurant was designed to be a feature of the resort town of Venice. A "first draft" of the Ship Cafe was washed away by a sea storm on March 13, 1905; Kinney hired 600 laborers to rebuild it in time for a summer opening. The restaurant sat on pilings, and was designed by Norman Foote Marsh and Clarence H. Ocean Park, Santa Monica
Ocean Park is a Santa Monica neighborhood of Santa Monica in the Westside region of Los Angeles County, United States. History Developer Abbot Kinney and Francis G. Ryan, of the firm Kinney & Ryan, acquired the deed to the coastal strip previously purchased by W. D. Vawter and named the area ''Ocean Park'' in May 1895. It became their first amusement park and residential project. A horse-racing track, pier, and golf course were built near the ''Ocean Park Casino''. Kinney convinced the Santa Fe Railroad to extend its Inglewood line north to his resort. When his partner Francis Ryan died in October 1898, his widow's new husband, Thomas H. Dudley, sold their half interest to a group of men, Fraser, Gage and Merritt Jones. Kinney focused on developing the southern end of the property, which he made into Venice of America. Port Ballona
Port Ballona is an archaic place name for an area near the center of Santa Monica Bay in coastal Los Angeles County, where Playa Del Rey and Del Rey Lagoon are located today. Port Ballona was a planned harbor and town site from circa 1859 to 1903. The name comes from the Rancho La Ballona Mexican land grant. Port Ballona consisted of the current Del Rey Lagoon Park but conceptually also included the current Ballona Wetlands State Ecological Reserve alongside the estuarine river Ballona Creek, which flowed into and alongside the marsh within earthen levees built of soft-bottomed wetland soil. Rancho La Ballona
Rancho La Ballona was a Mexican land grant in the present-day Westside region of Los Angeles County, Southern California. The rancho was confirmed by Alta California Governor Juan Alvarado in 1839, to Ygnacio and Augustin Machado and Felipe and Tomas Talamantes. The Machados and Talamanteses had already been given a Spanish concession to graze their cattle on this land in 1819. Many Machado and Talamantes family members of the late 19th century and early 20th century are buried at the north edge of the former Mexican Rancho La Ballona at a cemetery on Pico Boulevard, which was known as the La Ballona Cemetery, later in 1876 as the Ballona Township Cemetery, and then as the Woodlawn Cemetery of Santa Monica in the early 20th century.
