Velma Veloria
Velma R. Veloria (born October 22, 1950) is a former politician from Washington. Veloria was the first Filipino American as well as the first Asian American woman to be elected to the Washington State Legislature as a member of Washington House of Representatives. She served from 1993 to 2004. Early life On October 22, 1950, Veloria was born in Bani, Pangasinan, Philippines. In 1962, Veloria immigrated to the United States. Education Veloria earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology from San Francisco State College. Career From 1970 to 1980, Veloria was a Labor Activist. Veloria worked at Office of Professional Employees International Union (OPEIU), IL WU Local 37 (cannery workers), and Service Employees' International Union (SEIU). Washington's 11th legislative district is one of forty-nine districts in Washington state for representation in the state legislature. After the 2010 redistricting process, the district included southern Seattle, Renton, Tukwila, and a portion of Kent. After the 2020 redistricting, the district included Tukwila, Renton, and Kent. Bob Hasegawa
Robert Alan Hasegawa (born September 22, 1952) is an American labor leader and politician serving as a member of the Washington State Senate, representing the 11th Legislative District since January 2013. Hasegawa is a lifelong resident of Seattle's Beacon Hill. He previously served in the Washington State House of Representatives, and is retired from the Teamsters Union where he was a member and union leader for over 32 years. Early life and education Bob Hasegawa grew up in Seattle, and lives in the Beacon Hill residence he grew up in.
