Velilla Power Plant
Velilla Power Plant was a coal-fired power plant near the village of Velilla del Río Carrión in the province of Palencia, community of Castile and León, Spain. Velilla Power Plant had two generating units with a capacity of 148 MW and 350 MW. The first unit was put into operation in 1964, and the second in 1984. In 2008, Velilla Power Plant was equipped with filters, so now more than 95% of the detrimental sulfur dioxide are filtered out from smoke. Velilla Del Río Carrión
Velilla del Río Carrión (or simply Velilla) is a town and municipality located in Montaña Palentina of the Palencia (province), province of Palencia, Castile and León, Spain. According to the 2023 INE census, the municipality has a population of 1,145 inhabitants, the majority of whom live in the town of Velilla itself. The village straddles either side of the Carrión (river), Carrión river, a tributary of the Pisuerga and eventually the Duero. It is only 5 kilometres upstream from Guardo, the largest town in the region. The Palencia mining basin is a Spanish coal mining area located on the southern slope of the Cantabrian Mountains, Cantabrian mountain range.
