Veena Bhatnagar
Veena Kumar Bhatnagar is a Fijian politician who served as a member of the Parliament of Fiji from 2014 to 2022. She served as the Assistant Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation. She is a member of the FijiFirst party. Bhatnagar is a former radio personality and program director for Radio Fiji Two. She was announced as a candidate for the FijiFirst Party on the 15th of August 2014 only a week after hosting a debate between a FijiFirst and an opposition party representative on her Aaina Radio show where her neutrality as host was called into question by some critics. She reappeared as a guest on a later episode of Aaina where she defended her performance as a host in the aforementioned debate and claimed she did not know that she was going to stand as candidate for Fiji First when she hosted the debate. Lenora Qereqeretabua
Lenora Salusalu Qereqeretabua (born 1 March 1968) is a Fijian broadcaster and politician. In December 2022, she was elected deputy speaker of the Parliament of Fiji. She is a member of the National Federation Party (NFP). Qereqeretabua was born in Dravuni, Kadavu Province, and is the daughter of former Miss Fiji Eta Uluvula Qereqeretabua. In 1988, following in the footsteps of her mother, Lenora was crowned Miss Fiji. Since 1995 she has anchored the Pacific Community's Pacific-wide news show, The Pacific Way. She also worked as a public relations consultant and serves on the board of Save the Children Fiji. In 2015 was appointed to the National Flag Committee. FijiFirst ( fj, iMatai ni Viti) is a liberal political party in Fiji. The party was formed in March 2014 by then Prime Minister, Frank Bainimarama. Formation The party was launched on 31 March 2014 with Bainimarama beginning a nationwide tour of the country in a campaign bus to collect the obligatory 5000 signatures necessary to register a political party. The party collected over 40,000 signatures for its registration. Bainimarama says FijiFirst is a name that encompasses his political beliefs. He listed his first candidate and party president Jiko Luveni. The National Federation Party is a Fijian political party founded by A.D. Patel in November 1968, as a merger of the Federation Party and the National Democratic Party. Though it claimed to represent all Fiji Islanders, it was supported, in practice, almost exclusively by Indo-Fijians whose ancestors had come to Fiji between 1879 and 1916, mostly as indentured labourers.
