Vasyl Nikiforov
Vasyl Semenovych Nikiforov (4 August 1954, Pavlivka, Khmilnyk Raion, Vinnytsia Oblast – 7 March 2015, Vinnytsia) was a Ukrainian serviceman and a lieutenant general. He was the Deputy Commander of the Air Force for Aviation – Chief of Aviation of the Air Force Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, a military sniper aviator. He accumulated over 3300 hours of flight time. His mentor was Fedir Tyshchuk. Biography Nikiforov graduated from the Chernihiv Higher Military Aviation School of Pilots (1975), the Gagarin Air Force Academy (1989) and the National Defense Academy of Ukraine (2008). He held positions from a pilot of a fighter aviation regiment to the Deputy Commander of the Air Force for Aviation – Chief of Aviation of the Air Force Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. 831st Tactical Aviation Brigade (Ukraine)
The 831st Brigade of Tactical Aviation (Military Unit Number A1356) is a formation of the Ukrainian Air Force, composed primarily of Sukhoi Su-27 aircraft, that is based at Myrhorod Air Base. Soviet predecessor of the brigade The 659th Fighter Aviation Regiment was formed in Krasnovodsk (now Turkmenbashi Turkmenistan) at the end of 1941. The regiment became part of the 'Active Army' on 8 January 1942, having commenced military operations as part of the , 4th Shock Army, Kalinin Front. During the first two months of combat operations, the regiment carried out 123 sorties (13 of them, nightly), was involved in 13 air battles, shot down 8 enemy aircraft, and destroyed 22 motor vehicles, 112 wagons and two steam locomotives. 299th Tactical Aviation Brigade (Ukraine)
The 299th Tactical Aviation Brigade ''"Lieutenant General Vasyl Nikiforov"'' is a formation of the Ukrainian Air Force based at Kulbakino Air Base. The unit is equipped with Sukhoi Su-25 attack aircraft and is tasked with providing close air support for the Ukrainian Ground Forces and the Ukrainian Navy. It is subordinated to Air Command South headquartered at Odesa and has some 950 servicemen. Initially the airbase operated solely Su-25s but in November 2007 it inherited some 20 Aero L-39 Albatros trainer aircraft from a disbanded unit. The Sukhoi Su-27 (russian: Сухой Су-27; NATO reporting name: Flanker) is a Soviet-origin twin-engine supermaneuverable fighter aircraft designed by Sukhoi. Viktor Andriyovych Yushchenko ( uk, Віктор Андрійович Ющенко, ; born 23 February 1954) is a Ukrainian politician who was the third president of Ukraine from 23 January 2005 to 25 February 2010. As an informal leader of the Ukrainian opposition coalition, he was one of the two main candidates in the 2004 Ukrainian presidential election.
