Vassilis Simtsak
Vassilis Symtsak (alternative spellings: Vasilis, Vasileios, Simtsak) (; (born 3 March 1981) is a Greek professional basketball coach and former player, currently an assistant coach for Panathinaikos of the Greek Basketball League (GBL) and the EuroLeague, under head coach Ergin Ataman. Standing at 2.07 m (6 ft 9 in), he mainly played at the center position. Professional career Some of the clubs that Symtsak has played with in his pro career include: Doukas, Sporting, AEK Athens, PAOK, Trikala 2000, Kavala, Ikaros Kallitheas, and Panionios. In 2014, he signed with the Greek League club Aris. He then re-signed with Aris in 2015. After the end of the 2016–17 season, Symtsak completed 10 seasons in the Greek Basket League, counting 1,068 points, 1,095 rebounds, 154 assists, 116 steals, and 43 blocks, in a total of 258 appearances. Basketball coaching is the act of directing and strategizing the behavior of a basketball team or individual basketball player. Basketball coaching typically encompasses the improvement of individual and team offensive and defensive skills, as well as overall physical conditioning. Coaches also have the responsibility to improve their team by player development, strategy, and in-game management. Coaches also teach and inspire their team to be their best. Refugees Of The Greek Civil War
During and after the Greek Civil War of 1946–1949, members and or supporters of the defeated Communist forces fled Greece as political refugees. The collapse of the Democratic Army of Greece (DSE) and subsequent evacuation of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) to Tashkent in 1949 led thousands of people to leave the country. It has been estimated that by 1949, over 100,000 people had left Greece for Yugoslavia and the Eastern Bloc, particularly the USSR and Czechoslovakia. These included tens of thousands of child refugees who had been forcefully evacuated by the KKE. Christos Serelis
Christos Serelis (; born August 21, 1974) is a Greek professional basketball coach who is currently an assistant coach for Panathinaikos of the Greek Basketball League (GBL) and the EuroLeague, under head coach Ergin Ataman. Coaching career Serelis became the head coach of the Greek club Lavrio in 2005. With Lavrio, he won the Greek 4th Division championship in 2007, and the Greek 3rd Division championship in 2010. On April 14, 2022, he left Lavrio in order to join Panathinaikos, as an assistant of Giorgos Vovoras. After the end of the season, he became once again the head coach of Lavrio. Ergin Ataman
Halil Ergin Ataman (born January 7, 1966) is a Turkish professional basketball coach, currently managing Panathinaikos of the Greek Basketball League (GBL) and the EuroLeague. He is also the head coach of the Turkish national team. During his playing career which began in 1982, he played for the Eczacıbaşı and Yeşilyurt basketball clubs in the amateur area. Ataman is considered the most successful coach in Turkish basketball history and one of the most successful coaches in Europe, having won three Euroleague titles (2021, 2022 and 2024).
