Vasse (Netherlands)
Vasse (Tweants dialect, Tweants: ) is a village in the Netherlands, Dutch province of Overijssel. It is a part of the municipality of Tubbergen, and lies about 15 km northeast of Almelo. History Vasse developed as an ''Angerdorf, esdorp'' along the Vasser Es River. It was first mentioned in the late 10th century as "in Fahsi". The etymology is unclear. In 1803, it became an independent parish. In 1840, it was home to 298 people. In 1861, the Catholic church was built in Vasse, and a village developed around it. Some rural farms and barns are good examples of the traditional building style in Twente which includes variations of the Low German house. The village is a popular destiny as a starting point for hiking or biking trips because of the beauty and variety of the nature surrounding it. Gordon Herbert Vasse
Air Commodore Gordon Herbert Vasse, (23 April 1899 – 26 March 1965) was a fighter pilot in the First World War and a senior Royal Air Force commander during the Second World War and into the early 1950s. During most of the Second World War he was Director of Air Tactics for the RAF. In his final appointment Vasse also served as the seventh Commandant of the Royal Observer Corps. Vasse was chosen as one of the RAF's principal representatives to the funeral of King George VI in 1952. RAF career Early career In 1917 Vasse joined the Royal Naval Air Service as a trainee pilot in the rank of Probationary Flight Officer and was later promoted to flight sub-lieutenant. When the Royal Air Force (RAF) was formed in March 1918 Vasse transferred to the new service in the rank of second lieutenant and was rapidly promoted to pilot officer and then flying officer. Thomas Vasse
Thomas Timothée Vasse (27 February 1774 in Dieppe, Seine-Maritime – presumed 8 June 1801) was a French sailor who was lost in the surf on the South West of Australia in 1801, and presumed drowned. From Vasse's name is taken the name the Vasse, an early name for Busselton, for the land adjacent to where the incident occurred, the town of Vasse, and also a number of geographical features in the area including Vasse River and Vasse Inlet. Born in Dieppe and baptised Timothée Thomas Joseph Ambroise Vasse, Vasse was a helmsman second class on the '' Naturaliste'' during the 1801–04 expedition of the '' Géographe'' and ''Naturaliste'' under Nicolas Baudin, which explored much of the southwest coast of New Holland (now Western Australia). On 30 May 1801, the expedition anchored in a bay that they named Géographe Bay, and a party went ashore. Vasse, Western Australia
Vasse is a suburb of the city of Busselton in the South West region of Western Australia, west of Busselton and southwest of Perth. Its local government area is the City of Busselton. At the 2021 census, Vasse had a population of 2,853. The area was originally inhabited by the Wardandi people. Hurford and Penney seem to have had a bay whaling operation in Geographe Bay in 1846. The Vasse River is a river in the South West of Western Australia Western Australia (WA) is the westernmost state of Australia.
