''Vasilisa'' () is a 2014 Russian film and TV mini-series for Russian World Studios (RWS) based on the life of Napoleonic War partisan Vasilisa Kozhina directed by Anton Sivers. Russian World Studios originally contracted Dmitry Meskhiev to direct the film, with the lesser known Anton Sivers taking over after Meskhiev pulled out. Plot Serf Vasilisa is in a secret romantic relationship with nobleman Ivan Ryazanov. He promises her freedom and a wedding, but since his childhood has been engaged to another girl from the nobility, whose friendship he retains. Simon Verhoeven (born in Munich on 20 June 1972) is a German-Austrian film director, screenwriter, film producer, former actor, and occasional film music composer. Life and family Verhoeven is the son of international screen actress Senta Berger and BAFTA-winning, Oscar-nominated film director Michael Verhoeven. The Verhoevens have been working in acting and directing for generations: Simon Verhoeven's grandfather Paul Verhoeven (not the Dutch filmmaker of the same name) ran the renowned Deutsches Theater in Berlin as well as the Munich Kammerspiele. ''Vasilisa the Beautiful'' () is a 1940 Soviet children's fantasy film produced by Soyuzdetfilm and directed by Alexander Rou. It was based on a traditional Russian fairy tale '' The Frog Tsarevna (Vasilisa the Wise)'', rather than the fairy tale of the same name. It was the first large-budget feature in the Soviet Union to use fantasy elements, as opposed to the realistic style long favored politically.
