Vasilis Bolanos
Vasil Bollano (, ''Vasilis Bolanos'', born July 7, 1958) was the chairman of Omonoia and representative of the Greeks living in Albania. History In 2007, Bollano asserted that the Greek community of Albania deserved the same rights as the Albanians in Kosovo. On April 21, 2009 he was sentenced to six months in prison and a 3800 euro fine, for removing road signs in the municipality. Bollano objected to the signs, which had been installed by national authorities, because they were written in Albanian only, and not in Greek also. Bollano appealed against the decision arguing that the installment of road signs was a matter of municipal jurisdiction, and the appeal court overturned the initial sentence. In December 2009, after investigation of Vlora department of prosecutions, he was indicted for abuse of power and falsification of official documents after issuing illegal building permits along the Albanian southern coast. Albanian Local Elections, 2011
The Albanian local elections of 2011 took place on 8 May 2011 in Albania. Electors were asked to elect their municipality's mayor, municipal council members, municipal unit mayor, and municipal unit members. The elections were administrated by the Central Election Commission of Albania. Only 9 of the 384 winning candidates were women. Parties and coalitions The two coalitions taking part in the 2011 local elections were the Coalition of the Citizen () formed by the Democratic Party of Albania and Coalition for the Future () formed by the Socialist Party of Albania. Unity For Human Rights Party
The Unity for Human Rights Party (, ) is a social-liberal political party in Albania supporting the Greek minority. Founded in 1992, it represents Albania's minorities and is mainly related to the Greek minority, and is the political continuation of Omonoia. It works with Omonoia, MEGA and other Greek parties in Albania at national elections, under a Greek bloc. The party is currently led by Vangjel Dule, who holds the party's only seat in Parliament. Omonoia (organization)
The Democratic Union of the Greek Minority – OMONOIA (; ), better known by its short name Omonoia (), is a social, political and cultural organization in Albania that promotes minority rights for the Greek minority in the south of the country. Structure Omonoia has four affiliates in the cities of Sarandë, Delvinë, Gjirokastër and Tirana, and some sub-sections in Korçë, Vlorë and Përmet. Its leading forum is the General Council consisting of 45 members, it is elected by the General Conference and held every two years. History The organisation was founded in 1991, after the collapse of the PPSh regime, in the village of Derviçan, by representatives of the Greek national minority.
