Vasily Kuznetsov (politician)
Vasily Vasilyevich Kuznetsov (; 5 June 1990) was a Russian Soviet politician who acted as List of heads of state of the Soviet Union, Chairman of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the Soviet Union from 1982 to 1983 (after the death of Leonid Brezhnev, Brezhnev), for a second time in 1984 (after the death of Yuri Andropov, Andropov), and for a third time in 1985 (after the death of Konstantin Chernenko, Chernenko). He was one of the oldest members of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union. Chairman of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the Soviet Union was formally the highest state post. During the term of office, Kuznetsov was 81–82, 82–83, and 84 years old, respectively. He is the oldest head of the Soviet and Russian state in history (he was older than all three predecessors in this post). Vasili Kuznetsov (decathlete)
Vasili Dmitriyevich Kuznetsov (, 7 February 1932 – 6 August 2001) was a Soviet and Russian decathlete who won the European title in 1954, 1958 and 1962. He competed for the Soviet Union at the 1956, 1960 and 1964 Olympics and won bronze medals in 1956 and 1960, placing seventh in 1964. Kuznetsov took up athletics in the late 1940s and won a record 10 national decathlon titles in 1953-60 and 1962–63. He set two decathlon world records: in May 1958, he was the first athlete to break the 8,000 points barrier on the 1952 scoring system, with 8,014 points (7,653 (1985)) in Krasnodar. He set his second world record in May 1959 at 8,357 (7,839 (1985)). He also held three pentathlon world records at 3,736 in 1956, 3,901 in 1958, and 4,006 in 1959. Kuznetsov retired after the 1964 Olympics to become an athletics coach and lecturer at the Moscow State University. Vasily Ivanovich Kuznetsov (Russian: ''Василий Иванович Кузнецов''; – 20 June 1964) was a Soviet general and a Hero of the Soviet Union. Life and career Kuznetsov was born to a working-class family in Ust-Usolka, Solikamsky Uyezd, Perm Governorate. In April 1915 he was drafted into the Imperial Russian Army, taking part in World War I. In March 1916 he completed officer training in Kazan, attaining the rank of a Podporuchik in July. In August 1918, after the October Revolution, he joined the Red Army, serving in the Russian Civil War first as a company commander and later as a deputy regimental commander. In October 1923 he was appointed commander of 89th Rifle Regiment. He joined the Communist Party in 1928.
