Vartholomio
Vartholomio () is a town and a former municipality in Elis, West Greece, Greece. Since the 2011 local government reform it is part of the municipality Pineios, of which it is a municipal unit. The municipal unit has an area of 60.696 km2. The municipal unit covers the southern part of the hilly Kyllini peninsula, and the plains to the southeast. The town Vartholomio is in the plains, on the right bank of the river Pineios, which flows into the Ionian Sea south of the town. The town was at the junction of two railway lines, one from Kavasila to Kyllini, and the branch Vartholomio–Loutra Kyllinis railway line. Both railways have been dismantled. Vartholomio is 1 km northwest of Kalyvia Myrtountion, 4 km west of Gastouni, 3 km southwest of Dimitra, 10 km southeast of Kyllini and 30 km northwest of Pyrgos. Lygia
Lygia () is a village and a community in the municipal unit of Vartholomio, Elis, Greece. The community includes the villages Arkoudi, Glyfa, Ioniki and Paralia. Lygia is situated in the low hills of the southern part of the Kyllini peninsula, 3 km from the Ionian Sea. It is 4 km southeast of Kastro, 4 km east of Loutra Kyllinis and 4 km west of Vartholomio. Arkoudi is the westernmost village of the community, 4 km southwest of Lygia, on the coast near Loutra Kyllinis. Its population was 77 in 2001. Glyfa is 2 km southwest of Lygia, and had 249 inhabitants in 2001. Paralia is 3 km south of Lygia, on the coast. It had 96 inhabitants. The village Ioniko is adjacent to the east of Paralia, and has no permanent residents. Kastro-Kyllini
Kastro-Kyllini () is a former Communities and Municipalities of Greece, municipality in Elis (regional unit), Elis, West Greece, Greece. Since the 2011 local government reform it is part of the municipality Andravida-Kyllini, of which it is a municipal unit. The municipal unit has an area of 49.322 km2. The population was 3,272 in 2021. The municipality Kastro-Kyllini was created in 1999 as part of the Kapodistrias reform from the formerly independent communities Kyllini, Elis, Kyllini, #Kato Panagia, Kato Panagia, #Kastro, Kastro and #Neochori, Neochori, that became municipal districts. After the 2011 Kallikratis reform, these municipal districts became (dependent) communities. Its seat of administration was the small port town of Kyllini. Kalyvia Myrtountion
Kalyvia Myrtountion (Greek: Καλύβια Μυρτουντίων) is a village in the municipal unit of Vartholomio, Elis, Greece. It is situated in a flat, rural area, on the right bank of the river Pineios, 4 km from the Ionian Sea. It is 1 km southeast of Vartholomio and 3 km west of Gastouni. In the local government reform under the Capodistrian Plan in 1997 it became a part of the municipality of Vartholomio. The patron saint of Kalyvia is Saint John Chrysostom. Dimitra, Elis
Dimitra (, before 1955: Τρουμπές - ''Troumpes'') is a village and a community in the municipal unit of Vartholomio, Elis, Greece. It is situated in a rural plain, north of the river Pineios. It is 2 km northwest of Kardiakafti, 2 km east of Machos, 3 km southeast of Neochori and 3 km northeast of Vartholomio. The community includes the small village Regklaiika. Between 1835 and 1912 Dimitra was part of the municipality of Myrtountia. Between 1912 and 1933 it was part of the community of Kardiakafti. Between 1933 and 1997, when it joined the municipality of Vartholomio, it was an independent community. Elis (regional Unit)
Elis also known as Ellis or Ilia (, ''Eleia'') is a historic region in the western part of the Peloponnese peninsula of Greece. It is administered as a regional unit of the modern region of Western Greece. Its capital is Pyrgos. Until 2011 it was Elis Prefecture, covering the same territory. The modern regional unit is nearly coterminous with the ancient Elis of the classical period. Here lie the ancient ruins of cities of Elis, Epitalion and Olympia, known for the ancient Olympic Games which started in 776 BC. Gastouni
Gastouni () is a town and a former municipality in Elis, West Greece, Greece. Since the 2011 local government reform it is part of the municipality Pineios, of which it is the seat and a municipal unit. The municipal unit has an area of 59.325 km2. Gastouni is situated in a flat rural area, 5 km from the Ionian Sea. The river Pineios flows into the sea near Gastouni. The town is south of Andravida, east of Vartholomio, northwest of Amaliada and northwest of Pyrgos. The Greek National Road 9/ E55 (Patras - Pyrgos) and the railway from Patras to Pyrgos pass east of Gastouni. There is a 12th-century Byzantine church in the southwestern quarter Katholiki. Kavasila, Elis
Kavasila (, also Καβάσιλας) is a village in the municipal unit of Gastouni, Elis, Greece. Its population is around 1,200. It is situated in a flat rural area, on the right bank of the river Pineios, at about elevation. It is northwest of Lefkochori, east of Kardiakafti, south of Andravida and northeast of Gastouni. Kavasila had a train station on the line from Patras to Kalamata via Pyrgos. A branch line to Vartholomio and Kyllini was shut down around 2001.
