Ellen Marie Vars
Ellen Marie Vars (born 12 August 1957) is a Norwegian Sami writer. She was born in Láhpoluoppal, Kautokeino. She made her literary debut in 1986 with the youth novel ''Kátjá '', which came to be among the most read Sami books in Norway. Her novel ''Čábbámus iđitguovssu'' earned her the Saami Council Literature Prize The Saami Council Literature Prize (, and ) is a literary prize for Saami literature first awarded by the Saami Council in 1994. At first, the prize was awarded annually, although starting in 2003, it has been awarded roughly once every two years ... in 2005. Henry Vars
Henryk Wars (born Henryk Warszawski, after 1947 Henry Vars; 29 December 1902 – 1 September 1977) was a Polish composer. He composed scores for 50 films during the interwar period in Poland and 60 more in the United States. He composed dozens of hits for revue-theatres and films including ''Miłość ci wszystko wybaczy (Love Will Forgive You Everything)'' sung by Hanka Ordonówna, ''Umówiłem się z nią na dziewiątą (I Have a Date with Her at Nine)'' and ''Sex Appeal'' sung by Eugeniusz Bodo, ''Ach, jak przyjemnie (Ah, How Lovely!)'' and ''Już nie zapomnisz mnie (Now, You Will Remember Me)'' sung by Aleksander Żabczyński. John De Vars Hazard
John de Vars Hazard MC (18 August 1888 – 12 June 1968) was a British Army officer and mountaineer who took part in the 1924 British Mount Everest expedition, most famous for the disappearance of the mountaineers George Mallory and Andrew "Sandy" Irvine. Biography Born on 18 August 1888, John de Vars Hazard spent much of his childhood in France and was educated at Bedford School before going on to study engineering. In his youth he took part in pioneering climbs in the Lake District, and made the first ascent of Great Gable's Abbey Buttress at Easter 1909. He joined the Royal Artillery and served in the First World War, during which he fought at the Battle of the Somme in 1916, as second in command to Henry Morshead, and was awarded the Military Cross. Morshead took part in the 1921 British Mount Everest reconnaissance expedition and the 1922 British Mount Everest expedition, and recommended that Hazard should be a member of the 1924 British Mount Everest expedition. Láilá Susanne Vars
Laila Susanne Vars is a Norwegian-Sami human rights lawyer and former politician. Elected rector of Sámi University of Applied Sciences 2019-2023. First Sámi woman to achieve a PhD in Law. She is former research director at the Norwegian National Human Rights Institution (NHRI). Expert member of the United Nations' Expert Mechanism on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (EMRIP) 2017-2023. She led the Sami Árja party from 2008 to 2010, and was vice president of the Sami Parliament of Norway from 2009 to 2013. In 2013, she became the director of the Gáldu Resource Centre for the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, which was based in Kautokeino, Norway. When Gáldu was integrated into the NHRI in 2017, Vars worked AS research director at the NHRI. Vars is a compact rural community in Cumberland Ward in the east end of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Col De Vars
The Col de Vars, elevation 2108 m (6916 ft) is a high mountain pass in the Alps between the departments of Hautes-Alpes and Alpes-de-Haute-Provence in France. It connects the Ubaye Valley with the Queyras valley and Embrun. It is traversed by highway D 902, which leads from Saint-Paul-sur-Ubaye in the southeast to Vars and on to Guillestre in the northwest. The pass has been included in the Tour de France 33 times since 1922, when Philippe Thys crossed the pass for the first time.
