Antonio d'Enrico, called Tanzio da Varallo, or simply il Tanzio (c. 1575/1580 – c. 1632/1633) was an Italian painter of the late-Mannerism, Mannerist or early Baroque painting, Baroque period. Biography He was born in Giacomolo hamlet, in Alagna Valsesia, and was active mainly in Lombardy and Piedmont, including the Sacro Monte di Varallo, Sacro Monte at Varallo Sesia, where he worked contemporaneously with Pier Francesco Mazzucchelli, Pier Francesco Mazzucchelli (il Morazzone). He painted a ''Circumcision'' for ''Fara San Martino'', and a ''Virgin with saints'' for the Collegiate at Pescocostanzo. Some of his paintings acquire the influence of Tenebrism, Tenebrist styles and morbid thematic characteristic of the followers of Caravaggio and also of many Lombardy, Lombard painters, including his somewhat gruesome ''David with Goliath'' (1620). Varallo Sesia
Varallo Sesia (Piedmontese: ''Varal''), pronunciation (Vhuh-rahl-loh) commonly known as Varallo, is a ''comune'' and town in the province of Vercelli in the Piedmont region of Italy. It is situated in Valsesia, at above sea level and some north-northeast of Vercelli and northwest of Novara. Once called Varade, it is divided in two boroughs (Varallo Vecchia and Varallo Nuova) by the Mastallone stream. In 1971, Varallo was awarded the Golden Medal for Military Valor for the deeds of its population against the German occupation in the late stages of World War II. Geography The valley of the Sesia is very narrow at this point as it nears its source. Varallo lies on the left bank where the Mastallone flows into the Sesia. The town is surrounded by the foothills of the Alps and is not far from the Monte Rosa, which is visible from the surrounding hills. The Novara–Varallo railway is a regional railway line of Piedmont in Italy, that connect Varallo to Novara railway node, crossing Valsesia. Since 2015, it is used only as a tourist railway and for freight service in the tract Novara-Romagnano Sesia. The tourist service is performed by historic trains of Fondazione FS, operated by Trenitalia, on specific dates. Regular passenger service was suspended from 15 September 2014, by decision of the Piedmont Region. History The railway was opened from 1883 to 1886. Varallo Sesia Railway Station
Varallo Sesia railway station () is the train station serving the ''comune'' of Varallo Sesia, in the Piedmont region, northwestern Italy. It is the junction terminus of the Novara–Varallo. The station is currently managed by Rete Ferroviaria Italiana (RFI). However, the passenger building is managed by comune. The station is served only by historic trains, in the service of tourism on planned dates. The ordinary passengers service has been suspended on 15 September 2014 by decision of the Piedmont Region. Train services are operated by Fondazione FS and Trenitalia. Each of these companies is a subsidiary of Ferrovie dello Stato (FS), Italy's state-owned rail company.
