Vansbrosimningen or Vansbrosimmet is an annual open water swimming competition held in July in Vansbro, Dalarna, Sweden since 1950. En Svensk Klassiker
En svensk klassiker, ''Swedish classic circuit'', is a diploma awarded to those who have finished races in four race disciplines (cross country skiing (sport), cross country skiing (90 km), cycle sport, cycling (300 km), swimming (sport), swimming (3 km), and cross country running (30 km)) during a 12-month period. The diploma was first awarded in 1972. Thousands of people, mostly Swedes, take part in all four each year and receive the Swedish Classic Circuit award. More than 28,000 people (more than 4,500 women) have achieved this. Races There is a special version ''The women's classic circuit'', ''Tjejklassikern'', with four events, but about one-third so long distances, meant for those women who believe the real Classic Circuit is too demanding. Open Water Swimming
Open water swimming is a swimming discipline which takes place in outdoor bodies of water such as open oceans, lakes, and rivers. Competitive open water swimming is governed by the International Swimming Federation, World Aquatics (formerly known as FINA), except when it is part of multi-sport events, which are governed by the World Triathlon. In the first edition of the modern Olympic Games in Athens in 1896, the swimming competition was held in open water. In 2000, the Olympic Games first included a triathlon with a 1500 m swim leg, and in 2008, a Swimming at the 2008 Summer Olympics – Men's marathon 10 kilometre, 10 km open water swim. Vansbro
Vansbro () is a locality in Dalarna and the seat of Vansbro Municipality, Dalarna County, Sweden. It had 2,026 inhabitants in 2010, out of a total municipal population of 7,000. The town is situated by the end of the Vanån, or Van River, the main tributary of the Västerdal River. History The first time Vansbro was mentioned in writing was by Carl von Linné during early 18th century. The place have also been mentioned in different texts from the same era under the name - Wahnbro or Wansbro. The name is believed to stem from a bridge built across the Vanå river. The railway between Kristinehamn and Mora was inaugurated in 1890 and the Vansbro railway station was constructed. Bernt Lennart Zarnowiecki (born 26 May 1954) is a Swedish swimmer, international competititor and 1972 Munich Olympic participant in the freestyle relay. Zarnowiecki was born 26 May 1954 in Gothenburg, Sweden. He swam for the Simklubben S02 club, in his hometown of Gothenburg. Zarnowiecki won a bronze medal in the 4 × 200 m freestyle relay at the 1974 European Aquatics Championships. 1972 Munich Olympics Competing in the 200 metres individual freestyle relay event at the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich, he was eliminated in the preliminaries. Zarnowiecki placed 34th in the 200 with a time of 2:01.34. Borlänge () is a locality in Dalarna County, Sweden, with 44,898 inhabitants as of 2020. It is the seat of the Borlänge Municipality which as of 2017 had a total population of 51,604 inhabitants. History Originally Borlänge was the name of a tiny village, and traces back to at least the 1390s. The village was insignificant up until about 1870.
