Vancouver Prostate Centre
The Vancouver Prostate Centre (VPC) is a prostate cancer translational research centre located in Vancouver, British Columbia. It is a UBC and VGH Centre of Excellence and a designated national Centre of Excellence for Commercialization and Research. The VPC is hosted by the Vancouver Coastal Health Research Institute and the Department of Urologic Sciences, Faculty of Medicine, University of British Columbia. The VPC's research laboratory was initially located in the Jack Bell Research Centre on the Vancouver General Hospital campus. In 2011, the Centre expanded its research laboratories into the Robert Hung-Ngai Ho Research Centre, a newly built adjoining building which also houses the Ovarian Cancer Research Program - OVCARE and the Centre for Hip Health and Mobility. Larry Goldenberg
S. Larry Goldenberg, (born 1953) is a Canadian researcher in the field of medicine and a pioneer in the treatment of prostate cancer. Goldenberg was born in Toronto, Ontario to survivors of the Holocaust who had immigrated to Canada after the Second World War. He completed his medical training at the University of Toronto in 1978. He is married to Paula Gordon, a pioneer in the diagnostic imaging of breast cancer and recipient of the Order of Canada. They have two sons. Goldenberg is currently Professor and Head of the Department of Urologic Sciences at the University of British Columbia. Prostate Cancer
Prostate cancer is cancer of the prostate. Prostate cancer is the second most common cancerous tumor worldwide and is the fifth leading cause of cancer-related mortality among men. The prostate is a gland in the male reproductive system that surrounds the urethra just below the bladder. It is located in the hypogastric region of the abdomen. Vancouver General Hospital (locally known as VGH, or Vancouver General) is a medical facility located in Vancouver, British Columbia. Robert Hung-Ngai Ho
Robert Hung-Ngai Ho (born 1932) is a Chinese Canadian-American philanthropist and former journalist. Early life and education Ho was born in Hong Kong, the British Empire, in 1932 to one of the richest families in the former colony. Ho's grandfather, Robert Ho Tung, was a prominent businessman and philanthropist. Although born into a religiously Buddhist family, Ho did not become religious himself until adulthood.
