Vancouver City Council (Washington)
Vancouver City Council is the governing body of Vancouver, British Columbia. The council consists of a mayor and ten councillors elected to serve a four-year term. Monthly, a deputy mayor is appointed from among the councillors. The current mayor is Ken Sim, who leads the party ABC Vancouver. City council meetings are held in Vancouver City Hall. The most recent election was on October 15, 2022. Structure Unlike many other cities of its size, all Vancouver city councillors are elected at-large, rather than being elected to represent municipal wards. A proposal to move to a conventional ward system was rejected by voters in a 2004 referendum. The mayor chairs council meetings and appoints members to regional boards, such as the Metro Vancouver board of directors. Ken Sim
Kenneth Sim (; born October 18, 1970) is a Canadian politician and businessman who has served as the 41st mayor of Vancouver since 2022. Biography Born in Vancouver to Hong Kong immigrants Francis Sim (d. 1999) and Maria Theresa Kim (1932–2016), Sim attended Magee Secondary School, Sir Winston Churchill Secondary School, and the UBC Sauder School of Business, graduating with a BComm in finance in 1993. He also holds a FCPA and FCA accounting designation. Sim co-founded Nurse Next Door Home Healthcare Services in 2001. Sim first ran for mayor of Vancouver with the Non-Partisan Association in the 2018 Vancouver municipal election and finished the runner-up to Kennedy Stewart. Rebecca Bligh
Rebecca Bligh is a Canadian politician, who was elected to Vancouver City Council in the 2018 Vancouver municipal election and reelected in 2022. Political career First elected as a member of the Non-Partisan Association, she left the party in 2019 claiming its ideology was driving towards the "far-right" following the election of its new executive. Her concerns were echoed by 2018 NPA mayoral candidate Ken Sim, while Bligh's fellow NPA councillors Melissa De Genova, Lisa Dominato, Colleen Hardwick and Sarah Kirby-Yung did not leave the party, but took steps to distance themselves from its board. By 2022, all except De Genova had quit the NPA, with Bligh, Dominato and Kirby-Yung re-affiliating with ABC Vancouver, and Hardwick joining TEAM for a Livable Vancouver. Forward Together is a non-profit advocacy organization and former municipal political party in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. The party was led by then–Vancouver mayor Kennedy Stewart through the 2022 municipal election, which he lost to Ken Sim. OneCity Vancouver is a municipal political party in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. It was founded in 2014 by independent activists and former members of the left-wing Coalition of Progressive Electors (COPE), including David Chudnovsky and Rafael Joseph Aquino; Aquino was OneCity's first candidate to run for public office. Christine Boyle is a Canadian politician who was elected to the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia in the 2024 British Columbia general election. The Coalition of Progressive Electors (COPE) is a municipal political party in the Canadian city of Vancouver, British Columbia. Sean Orr (born ) is a Canadian politician and writer in Vancouver, British Columbia. In 2025, he was elected to represent the left-wing Coalition of Progressive Electors (COPE) on Vancouver City Council. Adriane Carr
Adriane Carr (born 1952) is a Canadian academic, activist and retired green politician. She served on Vancouver City Council from 2011 until her resignation in 2025. Carr was a founding member of the Green Party of British Columbia (BC Green Party) and was the party's first leader, then known as "spokesperson", from 1983 to 1985. In 2000, she became the party's leader again. In the 2005 provincial election, she received over 25 percent of the vote in her home riding of Powell River-Sunshine Coast.
