Land Van Den Bergh
The Land van den Bergh was a lordship in Zutphen, Netherlands and included 's-Heerenberg, Didam, Etten, Zeddam, Gendringen, Netterden, and the Westervoort fiefdom. It was previously ruled over by the counts van Bergh. History The first known Count van Bergh was Constantinus de Monte who settled in the region between 1100-1125. The counts initially resided in Montferland until the construction of the castle Huis Bergh. In 1416, House Monte went extinct and was succeeded by House van der Leck. Oswald I van der Bergh was made an Imperial Count, but Land van den Bergh did not become sovereign. The most famous counts were Willem IV van den Bergh, Herman van den Bergh (1558-1611), and Hendrik van den Bergh (1573-1638). During the Eighty Years' War, they initially fought on the Staatse side, later siding with the Spanish, and finally switching back to the Staatse faction. Frederik Van Den Bergh (1559–1618)
Frederik van den Bergh (18 August 1559 – 3 September 1618) was a soldier in the Eighty Years' War. His titles included Lord of Boxmeer. Life Frederik van den Bergh was born in Ulft. He first fought on the Dutch side of the conflict. In 1582 he was promoted to ritmeester gaining control of a cavalry unit. A year later he became governor of Venlo, handing command of his cavalry to his brother. In 1584 he, his brothers Herman and Hendrik and their father Willem IV van den Bergh went over to the Spanish side in the war because they weren’t happy with their career possibilities. One of his first actions in Spanish service was taking part in the Siege of Grave in 1586. He was shot in the leg during this action. In 1586 he recovered and took part in an assault on Nijmegen. He was hit on the head by a falling stone passing out and missing the rest of that action. Van den Bergh reaction is a chemical reaction used to measure bilirubin levels in blood. More specifically, it determines the amount of conjugated bilirubin in the blood. The reaction produces azobilirubin. Principle: bilirubin reacts with diazotised sulphanilic acid to produce purple coloured azobilirubin. This reaction is highly useful in understanding the nature of jaundice. Willem IV, Count van den Bergh (1537-1586) was the Dutch Stadtholder of Guelders and Zutphen from 1581 until his arrest for treason in 1583. Solko Johannes van den Bergh (4 June 1854 in The Hague – 25 December 1916 in The Hague) was a Dutch sport shooter. Van den Bergh was a notary by profession who on 6 June 1880 married the noble Sophia Emma Nicoletta van Limburg Brouwer in Zeist. Together with his friend Henrik Sillem and the Frenchman François Monod he initiated the first "international shooting matches" (world championships in shooting) in 1897 in Lyon. Simon Van Den Bergh
Simon van den Bergh (October 26, 1819 in Geffen – April 6, 1907 in Rotterdam) was a Dutch businessperson who founded a margarine factory in the Netherlands. In 1888, the same year his son Samuel joined the company, he opened a factory in Kleve, the ''Van den Bergh Margarine Works''. By announcing it was for the industrial manufacture of margarine, he was able to circumvent the high tariffs of the German Reich on butter and margarine. The factory introduced the Sanella brand in 1904, made from almond milk. In the summer of 1929 (after the death of Simon van den Bergh) the Jurgens & Prince Margarine Works in Goch and Van den Bergh in Kleve merged to become Margarine Unie. Sidney Van den Bergh, OC, FRS (born 20 May 1929 in Wassenaar) is a retired Dutch-Canadian astronomer. He showed an interest in science from an early age, learning to read with books on astronomy. In addition to being interested in astronomy. He also liked geology and archeology. His parents got him science books, a telescope, and a microscope, although they wished him to pursue a more practical career and only follow astronomy as a hobby. He went to Leiden University in the Netherlands from 1947 to 1948. He then attended Princeton University on scholarship where he received his A.B. in 1950. In December 1950, he was living in Columbus, Ohio and evidencing an interest in Astronomy. He obtained an MSc from Ohio State University (1952) and a Dr. rer. nat. from the University of Göttingen (1956). Samuel van den Bergh (6 April 1864, in Oss – 4 February 1941, in Nice) was one of the main European Jewish margarine and soap manufacturers in the early 20th century. In 1888, the year his father, Simon van den Bergh, opened his first German margarine factory in Kleve, van den Bergh joined his father's margarine company, of which he became general director in 1909 after his father's death in 1907. He was initially in fierce competition with another manufacturer from Oss, Netherlands, named Antonius Johannes Jurgens, whose grandfather, Antoon Jurgens, had founded the first margarine factory in the world in 1870 in Oss by "using" a French patent and operated another German factory in nearby Goch.
