Valkyrior
The Valkyrior is a fictional organization appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. Based on the Valkyries of Norse mythology, the group, created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, first appeared in ''Thor'' #133 (October 1966). Within the context of Marvel's shared universe, the Valkyrior is a group of female warriors led by Brunnhilde / Valkyrie that was originally designated by Odin to bring the souls of slain heroes to Valhalla. In 2013, the team became the subject of the short-lived series, '' The Fearless Defenders''. Valkyrie, also known by her Asgard (comics), Asgardian name Brunnhilde, is a superheroine appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. Created by Steve Englehart and Sal Buscema, the character first appeared in ''The Defenders (comic book), Defenders'' #4 (November 1972). She is based on the Norse mythology, Norse mythological figure Brynhildr. Valkyrie became a mainstay of the superhero team known as the Defenders (comics), Defenders and a close ally and one-time love interest of the god Thor (Marvel Comics), Thor. Valkyrie was selected by Odin (comics), Odin to lead his personal Military organization#Commands, formations and units, unit of shield-maidens, the Valkyrior.
