Valery Kopytov
Valery Kopytov (; born 1971), nicknamed the Barnaul Chikatilo (), is a Russian serial killer who murdered 19 homeless people in Altai Krai between 2000 and 2004. Early life In 1998, 27-year-old Kopytov was released from prison after serving a sentence for mercenary crimes. After his release, he moved in with his father in Barnaul and failed to find friends or employment. Dissatisfied with his life, he left home and built a dugout beneath the New Bridge beside the Ob River. Crimes In 2004 or 2005, investigators discovered 13 corpses buried in the vicinity of the New Bridge. Later, they were led to Valery Kopytov, after a friend reported him to the police after he told him of his crimes. Kopytov was arrested and led investigators to an additional six bodies buried around the cities of Novoaltaysk, Zarinsk, and Biysk. His victims were stabbed or beaten to death with heavy objects. Andrei Chikatilo
Andrei Romanovich Chikatilo (; ; 16 October 1936 – 14 February 1994) was a Ukrainian-born Soviet serial killer nicknamed "the Butcher of Rostov", "the Rostov Ripper", and "the Red Ripper" who sexual assault, sexually assaulted, murdered, and mutilated at least fifty-two women and children between 1978 and 1990 in the Russian SFSR, the Ukrainian SSR, and the Uzbek SSR. Chikatilo confessed to fifty-six murders; he was tried for fifty-three murders in April 1992. He was convicted and Capital punishment in Russia, sentenced to death for fifty-two of these murders in October 1992, although the Supreme Court of Russia ruled in 1993 that Burden of proof (law), insufficient evidence existed to prove his guilt in nine of those killings. Biysk
Biysk ( rus, Бийск, p=bʲijsk; , ) is a city in Altai Krai, Russia, located on the Biya River not far from its confluence with the Katun River. It is the second largest city of the krai (after Barnaul, the administrative center of the krai). Population: History The fortress of Bikatunskaya (), or Bikatunsky Ostrog (), was founded in 1708-1709: it was constructed near the confluence of Biya and Katun Rivers (hence the name) in 1709 by the order the Russian Tsar Peter the Great signed in 1708.
