Valeriu Turcan (born May 22, 1976) is a Romanian political consultant and journalist. From 2007 to 2012, he served as press secretary to President Traian Băsescu, as well as being an adviser of his in the Presidency's Communications Department. He has been married to Raluca Turcan, a member of the Chamber of Deputies, since 2004. The couple have a son, Eric, born in 2007. The Romanian presidential impeachment referendum of 2007 was conducted in order to determine whether the president of Romania Traian Băsescu should be forced to step down. The National Liberal Party ( ro, Partidul Național Liberal, PNL) is a liberal-conservative political party in Romania (and the second largest overall political party in the country as of 2022). Re-founded in mid January 1990, shortly after the Revolution of 1989 which culminated in the fall of communism in Romania, it claims the legacy of the major political party of the same name, active between 1875 and 1947 in the Kingdom of Romania.
