Valeriu Sterian
Valeriu (Vali) Sterian (; 21 September 1952, in Știubei, Buzău County – 16 September 2000, in Bucharest) was a Romanian folk and rock musician. Studies He studied at the University of Bucharest and obtained a BA in psychology. Musical activity Valeriu Sterian started as a drummer during secondary school in the music band Copiii Florilor (Flower Children). His official debut was in 1973 at the Ballads' Spring Festival ( Festivalul Primavara Baladelor) (where he received the Best Song Award for the single ''Nopți'' (Nights). At that time he was performing with Carmen Marin as Vali și Carmen. He played for many years within the Cenaclul Flacăra. In 1979 he founded a music band called Compania de Sunet (''Sound Company''), with which he toured all over the country and also in Bulgaria, Hungary, USSR, Poland, Norway, France, United Kingdom, and in the United States. Romanian rock is a genre of popular music in Romania. It was influenced by changes in Romanian politics to such an extreme, that both the themes and styles of musicians, and the tastes and interests of listeners, changed dramatically with every major event in Romania's internal politics. As a result, the rock music that is currently performed in Romania features a politically influenced profile that equipoised censorship policies in communist Romania (before 1990) and reacted promptly to social issues that followed during the economic transition. However, the strict government regulations practised in Romania during the Nicolae Ceauşescu era determined a very specific sound in popular music, partly favourable for its originality. Maria Gheorghiu
Maria Gheorghiu (born August 28, 1963 in Reșița) is a Romanian folk singer and songwriter. In 1993, she won first prize at the National Festival of Folk Music 'Om Bun' (Good Man). Personal life Maria Gheorghiu was born in Reșița, Romania, on August 28, 1963. At the age of three years she started studying ballet. Her artistic gift was inherited from her parents and grandparents. She studied oboe, piano and violin at the School of Music in her hometown, before graduating in 1977. She then joined the choir room "Mioriţa", where she sang for ten years, under the leadership of conductor Doru Morariu. Later, she was a part of the Cenacle Atheneum in Reșița, where she recited poetry. She has a daughter, Maria Cassandra. Cenaclul Flacăra (Romanian for "The Flame Literary Circle") was a cultural and artistic movement in the Socialist Republic of Romania led by poet Adrian Păunescu. Between 1973 and 1985, it organized shows and concerts which, although rebellious in comparison to the official entertainment, promoted Nicolae Ceaușescu's cult of personality and the ideology of National Communism. Cenaclul Flacăra organized 1,615 shows of music, poetry and dialog throughout the country, having more than 6 million spectators.
