Valerian Stan
Valerian Stan (born 1955) is a Romanian publicist, civic and human rights activist, dignitary, lawyer, and military officer. Education and career He was born in Sascut, Bacău County. In 1977, Stan graduated the Nicolae Bălcescu Military School of active infantry officers from Sibiu. At graduation he received the rank of lieutenant and was assigned to a military unit in Bucharest. For nearly eight years he served as platoon and companion commander. Subsequently, until the end of 1989, he held administrative positions in the fields of logistics and labor protection, including within military construction units in the "national economy". Between 1982 and 1987, he attended the courses of the Faculty of Law at the University of Bucharest. After the Romanian Revolution of December 1989, he was a publicist, one of the leaders of the Civic Alliance, and he worked in human rights and think-tank organizations (APADOR-CH, CRJ, IPP, etc.). Ștefan Augustin Doinaș
Ștefan Augustin Doinaș (; pen name of Ștefan Popa) (April 26, 1922 – May 25, 2002) was a Romanian Neoclassical poet of the Communist era. Doinaș was born in Cherechiu, Bihor County. After completing high school in Arad, he studied philology in Sibiu, where the University of Cluj had moved in the wake of the Hungarian occupation of Northern Transylvania. Here he joined the Sibiu Literary Circle, a group formed around Lucian Blaga. Doinaș published his first volume of poems, ''Cartea mareelor'', in 1964. Some of his most famous works include: ''Omul cu compasul'', ''Seminția lui Laokoon'', ''Anotimpul discret'', ''Interiorul unui poem'' and ''Lamentații''. In 1992, he became a member of the Romanian Academy, and in 2002, honorary president of the Writers' Union of Romania. Doinaș died of throat cancer in Bucharest. Gabriela Adameșteanu (; born April 2, 1942) is a Romanian novelist, short story writer, essayist, journalist, and translator. The author of the celebrated novels ''The Equal Way of Every Day'' (1975) and '' Wasted Morning'' (1983), she is also known as an activist in support of civil society and member of the Group for Social Dialogue (GDS), as well as editor of ''Revista 22''. Biography Gabriela Adameșteanu was born in Târgu Ocna on 2 April 1942. She was the daughter of Mircea Adameșteanu, a high school history teacher, and Elena, a home economics teacher who lost her position when her subject matter was removed from the curriculum by Communist authorities and she had to work in a kindergarten. A brother of Mircea Adameșteanu's became a political prisoner of the Communist regime; another, the renowned archaeologist Dinu Adameșteanu, had taken refuge in Italy.
