Rubem Valentim (9 November 1922 – 30 November 1991) was born in Salvador, Bahia, Brazil. A self-taught artist, he started to paint as a child, doing figure and landscapes for Christmas crèches. Biography Valentim graduated in dentistry in 1946, and practiced the profession while continuing to paint. In 1948, he left dentistry to devote himself entirely to plastic arts. He went on to study Journalism and received his bachelor's degree from the School of Philosophy of Bahia in 1953. He participated in the renovative movement in the arts, which began in Bahia in 1978–1948.Valentim was devoted to his religion, even becoming a pai-de-santo, or priest, of a famous terreiro in Salvador, Bahia, Brazil. Born in the village of Camela (now known as Camela Amões Village) in the Huambo Province, he was a member of the Central Committee of the People's Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA), having defected from UNITA. Valentim Fernandes
Valentim Fernandes (died 1518 or 1519) was a printer (publisher), printer who lived in Portugal. An ethnic Germans, German originally from Moravia, he moved to Lisbon, Portugal in 1495 where he lived and worked for 23 years, he was a writer and a translator of various classical texts.Shorter English version. He printed on the orders of Leonor of Viseu and worked on the book ''Vita Christi''. His 1506-1507 ''Valentim Fernandes manuscript, Descripcam'' described how camel caravans carried Saharan salt from Oualata to Timbuktu, and then onto Djenne. There the salt was exchanged with the Soninke Wangara for gold. He died in Lisbon in 1518 or 1519. He worked with different intellectuals and artists, including Albrecht Dürer, Hieronymus Münzer and Mathias Ringmann (better known as Philesius Vogesigena who was a translator).
