Valborgskalaset
Valborgskalaset (Swedish for '' Walpurgis Night party'')is, according to its host FestU, Sweden's biggest party. It takes place on Chalmers on 30 April every year in the Chalmers student union building, to celebrate Walpurgis Night. The party usually have 11 to 12 bars serving drinks, 8 dancefloors and a scene with live performances. Famous artists such as The Sounds, Petter, Movits!, Den svenska björnstammen, Maskinen, Melody Club, Sahara Hotnights, Kapten Röd and Johnossi have performed live on stage. The party often features a lot of different "toys" like bouncy castles (the Festu Fraternity have their own purple bouncy castle), rodeo-bull, sumo-suit-fighting and a pretty amazing laser show. The legal age of entering the party is 18 years of age, and the extremely popular tickets are almost always sold out in less than an hour. Walpurgis Night
Walpurgis Night (), an abbreviation of Saint Walpurgis Night (from the German ), also known as Saint Walpurga's Eve (alternatively spelled Saint Walburga's Eve), is the eve of the Christian feast day of Saint Walpurga, an 8th-century abbess in Francia, and is celebrated on the night of 30 April and the day of 1 May. This feast commemorates the canonization of Saint Walpurga and the movement of her relics to Eichstätt, both of which occurred on 1 May 870. Saint Walpurga was hailed by the Christians of Germany for battling "pest, rabies, and whooping cough, as well as against witchcraft". Christians prayed to God through the intercession of Saint Walpurga in order to protect themselves from witchcraft, as Saint Walpurga was successful in converting the local populace to Christianity. Far Eastern State Technical University (FESTU) (russian: Дальневосто́чный госуда́рственный техни́ческий университе́т, ДВГТУ) is a university located in Vladivostok, Russia. It was established on February 20, 1930 as Far Eastern Politechnical Institute (). It was granted the university status in 1992. FESTU is not a successor of Oriental Institute as it claimed to be. The Sounds
The Sounds are a Swedish indie rock band. Formed in Helsingborg in 1998, the group's musical style has been compared to new wave acts such as Blondie, The Cars, the Epoxies and Missing Persons. Their debut album, '' Living in America'', was released in 2002, with the follow-up '' Dying to Say This to You'' in 2006. Their third album, '' Crossing the Rubicon'', was released in 2009, and their fourth, '' Something to Die For'', was released in 2011. Their fifth album, ''Weekend'', was released in 2013. Petter (rapper)
Petter Alexis Askergren, (born 25 May 1974), who simply uses his given name Petter as a stage name, is a rap artist from Stockholm, Sweden, rapping in Swedish. He debuted in 1998 with the album ''Mitt sjätte sinne'' (My Sixth Sense), which became a success and started the Swedish hip hop boom in the late 1990s and early 2000s. He owns a record company called Bananrepubliken ( en, The Banana Republic). He also studied art history at Uppsala University for some time. He has also worked with the famous Norwegian rap producer Tommy Tee several times in his career. Petter also frequently works with Swedish disk jockey Patrik Elofsson who goes by the stage name DJ Sleepy. In 2014 he hosted Musikhjälpen in Uppsala. Movits! () is a Swedish music group from Luleå. The group plays swing mixed with hip hop. Their debut album ''Äppelknyckarjazz'', literally translated as ''Apple swiper jazz'' or '' scrumping jazz'', was released in November 2008 and has been recognized by national Swedish newspaper '' Dagens Nyheter''. Maskinen
Maskinen (, "The Machine") was a Swedish music group consisting of the rapper Herbert Munkhammar who was earlier part of the duo Afasi & Filthy and Frej Larsson, also a member of the band Slagsmålsklubben and duo Far & Son. Oskar "Kihlen" Linnros, formerly a member of the band Snook, was a member of Maskinen but left after the release of the single "Segertåget". Melody Club is a Swedish band from Växjö formed in January 2000. Their breakthrough came in 2002 with the song ''Palace Station'', which was also a big success in Germany. The band has frequent radio airplay in Sweden, Germany, Japan, Norway and Denmark. Melody Club's style can be described as a blend of synthpop and glam rock. Sahara Hotnights
Sahara Hotnights are a Swedish rock band from Robertsfors, Sweden. Their style incorporates elements of garage rock, power pop and punk. History The band formed sometime around 1991/1992, "due to boredom". While in Australia, Josephine Forsman bet on a horse named Sahara Hotnights and used the name for the band. Around 1995, they won a "battle of the bands" contest and were awarded with a chance to record their songs in studio. Björn Nilsson, better known by his stage name Kapten Röd, ("Captain Red", in Swedish), is a dancehall/ ragga artist and music producer from Gothenburg, Sweden. Johnossi
Johnossi is a rock duo from Saltsjöbaden, Stockholm County, Sweden, consisting of songwriter, singer, guitarist John Engelbert and drummer, percussionist, singer Oskar "Ossi" Bonde. The Cortège
The Cortège ( sv, Cortègen), or The Chalmers Cortège (Swedish: ''Chalmerscortègen'') is an annual carnival parade held on Walpurgis Night (30 April) by students of the Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg. The Cortège consists of around 1000 students and around 50 truck carriages, each carriage depicting—in a satirical and comic way—significant events that have taken place since the previous parade.
