''Vaishnavee'' () is a 2018 Sri Lankan Sinhala drama thriller film directed by veteran director Sumitra Peries and produced by Mano Nanayakkara. The film stars Yashoda Wimaladharma, Thumindu Dodantenna and Jayalath Manoratne in lead roles along with Vasanthi Chathurani and Cletus Mendis. Popular teledrama actress Samadhi Arunachaya made her cinema debut with the film. The music is composed by Nimal Mendis, and is his last music direction before his death. The film was shot in 2012, and Sumitra Peries was the first director to shoot with the latest Red Epic camera in Sri Lanka. The film had the last script written by Tony Ranasinghe before his death. The film received mostly positive reviews from critics. The film was released in 30 theaters throughout the country. Plot The story was influenced by veteran director Lester James Peries. Rohana Beddage
Kala Suri Rohana Beddage (; born 27 October 1935) is a singer and actor in Sri Lankan cinema, stage drama and television. He is also a musician, dancer, teacher, lyricist, lecturer, theater director, choreographer and an author. In February 2020, Beddage was appointed as the Sri Lankan Ambassador to the Maldives. Sumitra Peries
Sumitra Peries (March 24, 1935–January 19, 2023) was a Sri Lankan filmmaker. She was the first female film director from Sri Lanka. and was known as the "Poetess of Sinhala Cinema". She also held the post of Sri Lanka's ambassador to France, Spain and the United Nations in the late 1990s. Of her films the more popular ones are ''Gehenu Lamai'', ''Ganga Addara'' and ''Yahaluvo''. She was married to the most prolific Sri Lankan film director Dr. Lester James Peries. Thumindu Dodantenna (තුමිඳු දොඩම්තැන්න) is an actor in Sri Lankan cinema, theater and television. He is also a lecturer, screenwriter by profession. He graduated with an M.A in Drama and Theater from the University of Kelaniya, and is now a lecturer in the Department of Performing Arts at Sripalee Campus in Horana. Jayalath Manoratne
Keselgaspe Manatunga Jayalath Manoratne (; 12 June 1948 – 12 January 2020) was an actor in Sri Lankan cinema, stage drama and television. He was a lecturer by profession as well as a director and producer. A highly versatile actor from drama to comedy, Manoratne won awards at OCIC (International Catholic Organization for Cinema and Audiovisual), Presidential, Sarasaviya, Raigam Tele'es, Sumathi and the State Literary and Drama festivals. He was the best actor back to back in 1991 and 1992 for his performance in ''Socrates'' and ''Dvitva''. He is considered by critics as one of the five actors who have dominated the Sri Lankan Stage. Nimal Mendis
Nimal Mendis (1934–2015) was a Sri Lankan singer and songwriter, and was one of a handful of Sri Lankan musicians to appear on the BBC television programme ''Top of the Pops'' (1968). Mendis was a longstanding member of the Performing Rights Society and the Mechanical Copyright Protection Society of Great Britain. Mendis was discovered in the late 1950s by Radio Ceylon, which dominated the airwaves in South Asia in the era. The station backed Mendis' songs from the outset, including "Kandyan Express", turning them into hits in South Asia: so much so that listeners from all over the Indian sub-continent wrote in to Radio Ceylon requesting his songs.
