Voetbalvereniging De Valk is an association football club from Valkenswaard, Netherlands. De Valk plays in the 2017-18 Sunday Eerste Klasse (5th tier). History The club was founded on the day princess Juliana was born. The name of the club was ''Juliana''. The name was changed to De Valk in 1912. De Valk played professional football from 1955 until 1961. The club played its first year in the newly established Eerste Klasse, which name was later changed to Eerste Divisie. De Valk finished ninth in their first season of professional football and were relegated to the newly established Tweede Divisie. De Valk finished in last place in the 1960–61 Tweede Divisie and returned to amateur football. In 1963, De Valk became Dutch champion in Sunday amateur football. Valkenswaard
Valkenswaard () is a municipality and a town in the southern Netherlands, in the Metropoolregio Eindhoven of the province of North Brabant. The municipality had a population of in and spans an area of of which is water. The name Valkenswaard stems from its history of falconers, who caught wild falcons there; ''valk'' is Dutch for "falcon". It lay on a route where falcons migrated south each year. In the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries, Valkenswaardian falconers were active at many European courts, in which falconing was a beloved pastime. Valkenswaard's falcon-catching area has now been built over and falcons are no longer caught there. In the 19th and 20th century, a number of large cigar factories were founded in Valkenswaard, the two most renowned of which being Willem II and Hofnar. The league is divided into eleven divisions, six for Saturday clubs and five for Sunday clubs. Juliana Of The Netherlands
Juliana (; Juliana Louise Emma Marie Wilhelmina; 30 April 1909 – 20 March 2004) was Queen of the Netherlands from 1948 until her abdication in 1980. Juliana was the only child of Queen Wilhelmina and Prince Henry of Mecklenburg-Schwerin. She received a private education and studied international law at the University of Leiden. In 1937, she married Prince Bernhard of Lippe-Biesterfeld with whom she had four daughters: Beatrix, Irene, Margriet, and Christina. During the German invasion of the Netherlands in the Second World War, the royal family was evacuated to the United Kingdom. Juliana then relocated to Canada with her children, while Wilhelmina and Bernhard remained in Britain. The royal family returned to the Netherlands after its liberation in 1945. The Eerste Divisie (, en, First Division) is the second-highest tier of football in the Netherlands. It is linked with the top-level Eredivisie and with the third-level Tweede Divisie via promotion/relegation systems. It is also known as the Keuken Kampioen Divisie due to sponsorship, while previously it was known as Jupiler League for the same reason. History The Eerste Divisie consists of 20 clubs, who play each other in a double round-robin league, with each club playing the other club home and away. Each club plays every other club once in the first half of the season before the league takes a winter break around the Christmas and New Year's holiday season. 1956–57 Tweede Divisie
The Dutch Tweede Divisie in the 1956–57 season was contested by 30 teams, divided in two groups. It was the first season of the new lowest tier of Dutch professional football, organised by the Royal Dutch Football Association (KNVB). Teams could not be relegated to amateur football. RBC and Leeuwarden won the championship and were promoted to the Eerste Divisie. The composition of the league was based on the results of the previous season. The teams that had finished lowest in the Dutch amateur Eerste Klasse would play in this new league. Teams that finished higher, would start in the Eerste Divisie. The league had been divided in two, with a Tweede Divisie A and a Tweede Divisie B, each comprising 15 teams. The Vierde Divisie, formerly known as Hoofdklasse () is the second-highest league of amateur football in the Netherlands, and the fifth tier in general. Background The league is divided into two sections: Saturday and Sunday. This is a result of the traditional pillarisation ( nl, verzuiling), the segregation of Dutch society. The ''Saturday'' clubs are mainly Protestant Christian clubs, who were not allowed to play on Sunday. The ''Sunday'' clubs were in general Catholic and working class clubs, whose players had to work on Saturday and therefore could only play on Sunday.
