VTM Nieuws
VTM Nieuws is the name of the daily news broadcasts on the Flemish television network VTM. The bulletins were the first competition to VRT NWS Journaal, the news programmes broadcast by the VRT. History ''VTM Nieuws'' was first broadcast on 1 February 1989, the same night that VTM itself launched. As VTM's popularity grew, so did that of its news bulletins, with ''VTM Nieuws'' becoming a formidable competitor to ''Het Journaal'' throughout the 1990s. In its early years, ''VTM Nieuws'' was known for its relative innovations: its main bulletin, broadcast at 7pm, was presented by two newscasters, which was hitherto unheard of within Flanders; it was also the first Flemish news programme to broadcast a bulletin in the afternoon, and to have its newscasters present from within the newsroom. (; ) is a Flemish newspaper that mainly focusses on "a broad view" regarding politics, culture, economics, lifestyle, society and sports. History and profile In 1929, was published by for the first time. In 1939, the sports paper ''Sportwereld'' (established in 1912) was purchased by De Standaard and turned into a daily supplement to their two main newspapers, "" and "". In 1957, three other newspapers were purchased by and initially kept in circulation. Mark Demesmaeker
Mark Demesmaeker (; born 12 September 1958) is a Belgian TV journalist, newsreader and politician, affiliated to the New Flemish Alliance (N-VA). Career Demesmaeker was born in Halle, Flemish Brabant, and originally trained as a teacher, teaching the subjects Dutch, English and History. He later changed careers to journalism, becoming a reporter for a travel programme on the public broadcaster VRT in 1991. Shortly after, he moved to the commercial channel VTM, where he worked as a news presenter until 2004. Demesmaeker also created and presented the gardening programme ''Groene Vingers'' (Green Fingers). He was elected as a member of the Flemish Parliament in 2004 and reelected in 2009. In 2013, Demesmaeker left the Flemish Parliament to replace Frieda Brepoels (who became mayor of Bilzen) as member of the European Parliament. He was directly elected in 2014 to keep this position. Danny Huwé
Danny Huwé (1 December 1943 – ) was a Belgian journalist who was working for VTM, Vlaamse Televisie Maatschappij (English: Flemish Television Company), at the time of his death. Before VTM he worked as a radio journalist at the BRT (national radio and television) for many years together with journalists such as Rudi Dufour, Rudi Vranckx, Mark Ooms, and . He was killed during the Romanian Revolution. Biography He was born in Geraardsbergen (Belgium), and killed on 24 or 25 December 1989 in Bucharest (Romania) during the Romanian Revolution. He was shot by a sniper thought to be loyal to Nicolae Ceaușescu. Huwé was travelling by car from Sofia, Bulgaria towards central Bucharest.
