Standard-definition television (SDTV; also standard definition or SD) is a television system that uses a resolution that is not considered to be either high or enhanced definition. History TVNorge went on the air on 5 December 1988 and was the first advertising-supported Norwegian channel. The channel was started with 50 000 NOK. The first broadcast was a live variety show from Oslo Cabaret with Swedish singer Lill-Babs and Norwegian pop group Tomboy as musical guests. Rex is a Norwegian television channel designed for a mostly male audience. The first program on Max was the movie ''Wild Hogs'', followed by the premiere of ''Breaking Bad''. The first week was watched by over 1 million viewers, making it the most successful launch of a Norwegian television channel since TV 2 in 1992. In November 2010 Max bought the rights to Tippeligaen from NRK. The channel changed its name from Max to Rex on 19 March 2024, in anticipation for the launch of the Max streaming service in Norway. Discovery Channel (often referred to as simply Discovery) is a Norwegian television channel. Norway is one of the Discovery Channel's strongest markets and the channel regularly has an overall share of viewing of about two percent. It is most popular among younger men. The original American network used to have one feed covering all four Nordic countries. Special feeds have been launched for Discovery Channel Denmark in 2001 and Discovery Channel Sweden in 2003.
