VKLSE Győr
Volt Kinizsis Lányok Sportklubja Egyesület is a Hungarian women's handball club from Győr. They currently compete in the Nemzeti Bajnokság I/B, the second tier championship in Hungary. History The club was founded in 2000 by the former Győri Keksz ETO players, who have played on hobby level after their retirement from professional handball. In 2001 they entered the county level championship, which is the fourth tier of Hungarian handball leagues. They dominated through the whole season and gained immediate promotion to Nemzeti Bajnokság II. After finishing constantly between 3rd and 5th places in the next half decade the breakthrough came in the 2007/08 edition of NB II. By winning 18 league matches beside only one loss and one draw, the Győr-based team found themselves on the top spot at the end of the season and celebrated a further promotion. Magvassy Mihály Sportcsarnok
Magvassy Mihály Sportcsarnok is a multi-use indoor arena in Győr, Hungary, named after Mihály Magvassy, a physical education teacher who founded the first sports school in the city in 1856. History The idea of building a new indoor arena came up in the late 1960s, when the city had two handball clubs in the top division on the men's side and also the women's team had been set up successfully. The city council approved to invest to the project on 10 April 1970 and the construction began in 1974. It was inaugurated as an exhibition and sports hall in 1976. In preparation for the 1995 World Women's Handball Championship, that was co-hosted by Austria and Hungary, the arena went through a complete renovation to become a sports hall of the highest standards. Team Handball
Handball (also known as team handball, European handball, Olympic handball or indoor handball) is a team sport in which two teams of seven players each (six outcourt players and a Handball goalkeeper, goalkeeper) pass a ball using their hands with the aim of throwing it into the goal of the opposing team. A standard match consists of two periods of 30 minutes, and the team that scores more goals wins. Modern handball is played on a court of , with a goal in the middle of each end. Nemzeti Bajnokság II (Women's Handball)
The NB II, currently known as the Merkantil Bank Liga for sponsorship reasons, is the second tier of Hungarian football. At the end of the 2004–05 season, the tournament format was changed from one division of 14 teams to two divisions: ''Keleti'' (Eastern) and ''Nyugati'' (Western), each with 16 teams, though now it's just one league table with 16 teams as of the 2024–25 season. The champion and the runner-up will ascend to the first division while the two lowest teams in NB II are relegated to NB III. Format On 2 March 2017, the Hungarian Football Federation announced that the number of the teams in the Nemzeti Bajnokság II will not be reduced to 12.
